Estelle walked over to him. The fireworks outside had stopped, and the garden banquet area had been cleared and was now empty.
She slowly knelt in front of Jonathan. "Why are you sitting here?"
Jonathan's long fingers caressed her face as he smiled gently. "Watching the fireworks."
"Watching the fireworks?" Estelle's beautiful brows knitted together.
Jonathan leaned in and kissed the tip of her nose. "Stand up and see if there are any fireworks."
Estelle stood and leaned over the stone balustrade, looking out from the castle. There were no fireworks. Even the lights seemed to have dimmed, with only a few scattered, hazy points of light twinkling like distant stars in the darkness.
Further out, the majestic mountain range undulated against the horizon.
Just as she was about to question Jonathan, her body suddenly stiffened.
The man's hand was on her leg, followed by his cool lips.
Some things were understood without words. With just one move from him, she knew what he wanted.
Although, it was somewhat unexpected.
She tried to pull away, but Jonathan held her smooth ankle, easily guiding her leg over his waist to rest at his side.
The balcony was recessed, but the open view in front of her still filled Estelle with the thrilling tension of being outdoors.
Everything around the castle was quiet, with only the scattered lights, the towering mountains in the distance, and the vast night sky beyond.
Her conscious mind and physical senses became sharper. She could clearly hear his ragged, heavy breathing and feel the thin gauze of her dress brushing against her leg...
She couldn't help but tilt her head back. In that instant, brilliant fireworks shot up from the garden, bursting into a riot of colorful blossoms that bloomed across the sky.
Estelle stared at the sky, momentarily stunned.
True love never disappears. It transforms into a knowing glance, a warm smile, a passionate kiss—solid and eternal.
The celebrations were over, but a new day was just beginning. Their new life had just begun, slowly unfolding amidst a sky full of dazzling fireworks.
...
It was almost midnight. Gabriel had just showered and was about to go to the balcony for a smoke when he heard a knock on the door.
He grabbed a bathrobe, tying the belt as he walked to the door.
When he opened it, Sylvia was standing there.
She was still in the black gown, barefoot. As the door opened, she looked up at him, her languid, soft eyes meeting his.
"What is it?" Gabriel asked.
