Sylvia looked at him, her voice soft but serious. "You forgot something."
"What?"
"You forgot to help me shower."
Sylvia's brow furrowed slightly, a look of annoyance on her face. "I can't sleep without showering."
The man, clad in a dark blue bathrobe, was fresh from his own shower. His hair was damp, and the water vapor seemed to add a cold allure to his sharp eyes as he stared at Sylvia without a word.
Her eyes were hazy, the corners tinged with red. She looked wronged, yet bewitching, each glance a blow to his heart.
Sylvia walked forward, wrapped her arms around his waist, and buried her face in his chest, rubbing her forehead against him contentedly.
Gabriel lifted her into his arms, took two steps forward to close the door, and then carried her toward the bathroom.
Sylvia saw her teasing toy again and, following her heart's desire, leaned in to kiss it.
Gabriel's throat bobbed, his lips pressed into a tight line. Thinking about having to face people tomorrow, he raised a hand to push her away.
Sylvia looked up, stunned. Her eyes were red-rimmed as she stared at him, her expressionless face somehow conveying that she was deeply hurt and very unhappy.
Gabriel let out a soft sigh and pressed her back against him. After all, even if his entire neck was covered in red marks tomorrow, no one would dare to ask.
In the bathroom, under the spray of the shower, the man pressed Sylvia against the wall and kissed her.
It was a passionate kiss, as if he intended to set her whole being on fire.
As his tall frame pressed down on her, Sylvia felt the air grow thin, desperately trying to draw the oxygen she needed from between his lips and tongue.
Her black dress slipped down under the stream of water, revealing her smooth skin and the datura flower tattoo that bloomed in the water.
Sylvia reached for the tie of his bathrobe. The man caught her hand, his eagle-like eyes still sharp, but his voice was now laced with hoarseness. "Did you break up with Eugene?"
"I slept for a little while," the man said.
Estelle muttered, "Why are you so energetic after just a little sleep?"
"I know, right?" Jonathan leaned in, his voice low. "I don't get it either. It should be the other way around. Why is the one who takes more tired than the one who gives?"
Estelle's face slowly turned red, and she reached out to tickle him.
Jonathan caught her hand, flipped over, and pinned her beneath him, his dark eyes burning into hers. "Was it that you didn't try hard enough, or I didn't?"
The movement caused the bells on the canopy to jingle. The sound wasn't loud, but in the quiet of the morning, it was exceptionally clear.
She had listened to it all night, and hearing it again now made her feel sensitive and weak, half of her resistance melting away.
Jonathan lowered his head to kiss her, his husky voice coaxing, "Answer me."
