Sophia ran over, too, smiling. “I think Old Mr. Jarvis is absolutely right. If Sylvia is really Georgia’s daughter, wouldn’t that be the best possible outcome? And even if she isn’t, I think after a night to cool down, Georgia won’t be in such a rush to leave. So it’s a good thing, right?”
A smile finally touched Old Mr. Quintin's lips. “Yes.”
Estelle noticed Evelyn standing off to the side, her head bowed, lost in thought.
Finding out she wasn't related by blood must have been a huge disappointment for Evelyn. Estelle felt she should find a chance to talk to her.
Sophia was still marveling at how she had been shocked to see Sylvia and Georgia standing together, remarking on how much they looked alike.
Old Mr. Quintin quickly asked, “You think they look alike too?”
Sophia nodded at once. “Yes, very much so!”
Remembering something, Old Mr. Quintin said excitedly to Mr. Carnes, “During the New Year, wasn't Sylvia at your house? When we video-chatted, I saw her. I thought she looked familiar even then!”
As the group grew more animated, Evelyn cast a dark look at Sophia and walked away alone.
Estelle excused herself to Jonathan and followed her.
She found Evelyn sitting on a courtyard bench, hugging her knees and crying softly.
“Evelyn,” Estelle called out.
Evelyn looked up, quickly wiping her tears. “Estelle,” she choked out.
Estelle sat beside her. “I’m also responsible for this,” she said, her lips pressed together. “Bringing you back from Citadel and waiting so long to do the test… I let you get attached to this family.”
Evelyn bit her lip, crying. “I did get attached to Grandpa. I really started to think of this as my home.”
Estelle looked at her. “I can help you find your birth parents.”
Old Mr. Quintin smiled gently. “I'm fine, don't worry.”
Estelle nodded and went back into the house.
As soon as she was gone, Evelyn broke into sobs. “Grandpa, how did this happen? I should be your granddaughter. Why is it Sylvia now?”
Old Mr. Quintin said, “We don't know if it's Sylvia yet. We have to wait for the new test tomorrow.”
Evelyn’s eyes were red. “Could this be Sylvia’s scheme? Did she tamper with the test results? I suspected from the start that she was deliberately getting close to Georgia.”
Old Mr. Quintin frowned. “Could she really do something like that?”
He answered his own question, shaking his head. “Impossible. Gab was the one who picked up the results. She might be able to fool others, but she couldn't fool Gab.”
“But Gabriel has been wrapped around her finger for ages!” Evelyn exclaimed, feigning a sudden realization. “Maybe this is all part of Sylvia’s plan. She got close to Gabriel, close to Georgia—it was all for a reason.”
