Until their relationship was confirmed, she felt it was best to keep a respectful distance from the Quintins.
Georgia smiled warmly and nodded. “Alright. See you tomorrow.”
She then looked at Gabriel. “Could you take Sylvia home for me?”
“Of course,” Gabriel replied.
Sylvia went to say her goodbyes to Mr. Carnes. “Old Mr. Jarvis, I didn't expect to see you again so soon. I can't join you for dinner tonight, but I'll come visit you again tomorrow!”
Old Mr. Jarvis nodded kindly. “There will be plenty of opportunities. This one time doesn't matter. Be safe on the road.”
Sylvia said farewell to Estelle and the others before turning toward Gabriel's car.
Old Mr. Quintin’s eyes remained fixed on Sylvia. In the dim light, the more he looked at the girl's well-defined profile, the more she resembled a young Georgia. He almost called out for her to stay.
Evelyn noticed Old Mr. Quintin’s reaction, and a fresh wave of panic washed over her. She turned to watch Sylvia's retreating back. Before, she had only disliked this person; now, she was starting to hate her.
It couldn't be Sylvia. It was too much of a coincidence!
Evelyn desperately tried to reassure herself.
After Gabriel drove away with Sylvia, Estelle took Georgia's suitcase and smiled. “Let's go back inside and talk.”
Georgia nodded and re-entered the courtyard with the others.
The situation had suddenly become delicate. After such a long wait, the discovery that Evelyn wasn't Georgia's daughter had left everyone disheartened and heavy-hearted. But now, because of Sylvia, there was new hope.
It was like a ray of light piercing through an endless, dark night.
Old Mr. Quintin's mind was in turmoil. He turned to Old Mr. Jarvis. “What do you make of all this? How could that Sylvia be Nana?”
“Until Nana is found, anything is possible,” Old Mr. Jarvis said thoughtfully. “If you ask me, you should stop thinking for now. Sylvia's arrival today convinced Georgia to stay, and isn't that a good thing? At least it has calmed her down a bit.”
Old Mr. Quintin slowly nodded. “You're right. Georgia actually offered to sort through Nana's things. She used to not even be able to look at them.”
Mr. Carnes added, “Exactly. So even if Sylvia isn't Georgia's daughter, things won't get any worse.”
Old Mr. Quintin still looked baffled. “I just find it all a bit... absurd.”
Old Mr. Jarvis smiled. “I don't. Georgia and Sylvia met abroad. If they really are mother and daughter, then it's simply the work of fate.”
Old Mr. Quintin considered this and had to agree. Could it be that fate had already brought Georgia and Nana together long ago?
