Mrs. Winters shot Georgia a sharp glance, let out a cold snort, and strode off with her head held proudly.
Watching the pair walk away, Georgia seemed to realize something. She exchanged a look with Sylvia and sneered, “That’s Eugene’s mother?”
Sylvia gave a helpless sigh. “Eugene himself isn’t bad—but with a mother like hers, what a shame.”
Georgia’s expression darkened. “Just what kind of people has Evelyn gotten involved with?”
She shook her head and, taking Sylvia by the hand, led her back toward the banquet hall.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Winters was hardly willing to leave things at that. “Evelyn, what are you so afraid of? You’re the guest of honor tonight—how can you let anyone put you down?”
She grasped Evelyn’s hand tightly. “You’re far too timid. People will assume you’re weak and easy to bully! Don’t worry, no matter what happens today, I’m here to stand up for you!”
With Mrs. Winters dragging her along toward the banquet hall, Evelyn grew terrified. “What—what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to clear everything up!” Mrs. Winters declared. Her presence was commanding, and her voice grew louder. “Let’s not be thrown off by that Sylvia. We’ve got our own business to take care of!”
“Mrs. Winters, please leave right now, or I’ll get angry!” Evelyn cried, panicked, trying to intimidate her.
But Mrs. Winters was determined to secure the engagement between the Winters and Quintin families tonight. Half coaxing, half pulling, she dragged Evelyn firmly toward the banquet hall.
It was only a glass door that separated the courtyard from the banquet hall—before Evelyn could resist, Mrs. Winters had already pulled her inside.
Old Mr. Jarvis looked between Evelyn and Mrs. Winters, then suddenly turned and beckoned warmly, “Georgia, Sylvia, come have a seat.”
Georgia and Sylvia came over. Seeing Mrs. Winters present, Georgia’s voice cooled instantly. “What are you doing here now?”
Mrs. Winters shielded Evelyn, standing her ground. “I could ask you the same. This is a gathering for distinguished guests—why bring your PR daughter here to stir up trouble?”
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone at the table glanced up at her, their gazes heavy and oppressive. Mrs. Winters instinctively took a step back.
Estelle was the first to break the silence, her tone icy. “Evelyn, what is really going on here?”
Magdalen gripped Estelle’s wrist, a cold smile on her lips. “Ella, don’t get ahead of yourself—it looks like some people’s act is falling apart. On a day like this, might as well let it all come out, right?”
