Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3000

Wilson wore a slate blue shirt, the sapphire cufflinks at his wrists catching the sunlight with a soft, understated luster—perfectly complementing his refined demeanor.

He looked straight ahead, his voice calm and clear. “You’ve been so busy. We’ve tried inviting you to a few class reunions, but we couldn’t get you to come. Now everyone’s a bit hesitant to call, afraid we might bother you.”

Emily apologized with a hint of guilt. “It’s true, I’ve been pretty swamped lately. Next time, dinner’s on me.”

Wilson chuckled. “No worries, we all understand. Don’t let it weigh on you.”

He glanced at Emily, then went on, “Back when we were in Oakdale City, you juggled three part-time jobs because you were on your own and needed the money for tuition—and to support Kya. Now that things are more stable, why are you still pushing yourself so hard? You’re still young, your twenties only come once. Don’t burn yourself out.”

Emily turned to him with a smile. “I actually found out from Betty later on that you helped me land some of those jobs, and even asked people to look out for me. I really owe you for that.”

Wilson shook his head, grinning. “It was nothing. When you’re studying abroad together, you become like family. Helping each other was the right thing to do.”

Emily’s eyes softened, clear and warm. “I still feel really lucky. Good people always seem to find their way to me.”

“That’s because your sincerity draws people in,” Wilson replied, his gaze gentle.

There was a brief silence, then Wilson continued, “There’s an old saying, ‘Kids without an umbrella have to run faster.’ But isn’t Mr. James your umbrella now? Why are you still running so hard through the rain? Or is it being with Mr. James actually brings a lot of pressure?”

Emily shook her head. “No, he never puts any pressure on me. Quite the opposite—he gives me a lot more confidence and courage.”

The mention of Charlie brought a sparkle to her eyes. “I just feel like this is the time in my life to give it my all. Working hard feels right to me. Everyone has their own idea of what enjoying life means. For some, it’s taking it easy; for others, it’s luxury shopping. For me, feeling fulfilled at work, and that sense of achievement when clients appreciate what I do—that’s what I enjoy most.”

Wilson nodded, clearly impressed. “That honestly gives me a new perspective—though I still can’t help worrying about you.”

Emily laughed lightly. “Thank you for caring.”

She shifted the conversation. “So, how are things going with Betty?”

Wilson raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
