"The year Adrian graduated, his dad had a sudden stroke and was in the hospital for two months. So, right out of college, with no experience or connections, he was thrown straight into the company to take on the entire burden of the business."
"A lot of people refused to respect him. They pretended to comply while secretly working against him—even his closest relatives wanted him gone."
"His own assistant was bought off, so he was often the last to know about major company decisions. His uncles forced their way into the management team under the guise of helping out. They dragged Adrian to endless business dinners and drinking binges every single day. Within a month, he drank so much he ended up with a perforated ulcer."
"One time, he was already passed out drunk, yet his own uncle and a few project managers still kept him pinned to the table. His mother tried to send people in to get him, but they were literally chased out."
"In the end, I had to go in and drag Adrian out of there."
Gonzalez shot her an inscrutable, dark look, a hint of mockery in his tone. "You were certainly brave for him."
"If I hadn't gone that day, Adrian might have died at that table!" Norah scoffed. "They didn't dare do anything to me. Of course, it wasn't me they were afraid of—they were terrified of Jonathan!"
When she walked in, ignoring the room full of men, she immediately moved to pull a limp Adrian to his feet.
Someone tried to stop her, but a man nearby respectfully called out, "Ms. Lamont!"
"Which Ms. Lamont?" the first guy asked.
"Mr. Lamont's niece."
In an instant, a pin drop could be heard in the room. As she supported Adrian out, someone even pulled a chair out of the way for her, asking if she needed a hand.
They were bullies who cowed to the strong—their hypocrisy was blatant.
From that day on, Adrian stopped being soft. He knew that if he showed weakness, they really would take his life.
In the face of massive wealth, family ties were utterly worthless.
Recalling all this, it suddenly dawned on Norah that Adrian's past situation might be exactly what Gonzalez was facing right now.
She frowned and asked him, "How are you holding up?"
Gonzalez took a sip of his tea and said flatly, "I don't have a mother planning things out for me, and I don't have a Norah by my side."

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
