Sara's face was a mask of perfect calm. "Norah, you and Khloe go shopping without me. I need to run back to the office for a bit."

Norah blinked in surprise. "Did something happen?"

"My boss just called," Sara lied smoothly. "They need me to handle something."

Norah smiled. "Alright, you better get going then. Call us if you need any help."

Before Sara could respond, Khloe sneered. "So fake. You just spit out lies like it's nothing. Don't waste your kindness on her, Norah. She doesn't need it. Watch out, or you'll end up getting bitten by the snake you took in."

Sara had reached her breaking point. She glared furiously at Khloe. "You are completely out of line."

Khloe, on the other hand, was perfectly calm. "Am I wrong? I didn't hear your phone ring."

Sara's expression was grim. She had only tried to walk away to spare Norah from getting caught in the crossfire. She hadn't expected Khloe to be so ruthless, refusing to leave even an ounce of dignity intact.

Norah looked back and forth between them, her voice dropping. "What exactly is going on? What happened with you two?"

Noticing other diners turning to stare, Sara took a deep breath. "This isn't the place to argue. Let's go somewhere private and lay it all out."

"I have nothing to say to you. I'm going home." Khloe stood up and grabbed her purse. Before turning to leave, she looked at Norah. "Norah, some people make a habit of stealing what isn't theirs. They have zero boundaries and no problem sleeping with a friend's boyfriend. You'd better watch your back."

With that, she spun on her heel and stormed out.

Norah stood in stunned silence for a second before turning to Sara. "What did she mean by that?"

She assumed Khloe was talking about Gonzalez.

Sara let out a bitter laugh. "It's nothing. She's just being paranoid and making wild accusations. I have never done anything to betray you. Do you believe me?"

Norah nodded without hesitation. "Of course I do."

"Then that's all that matters." Sara sighed wearily. "Honestly, I had no idea she harbored this much resentment toward me until today."

At the sound of his footsteps, Norah finally sat up straight.

Gonzalez had traded his dress shirt for a fitted black T-shirt and dark cargo pants, his tall, broad frame imposing as he took a seat across from her. "You look upset. What happened?"

Norah stared at him, her gaze lingering with a hint of scrutiny.

Her intense look sparked a sudden heat in his chest. "What is it?"

"Have you talked to Sara recently?" she asked point-blank.

Khloe's accusation about someone stealing a friend's guy kept replaying in her mind. She figured Khloe must have found out about Sara's crush on Gonzalez. But how would Khloe know about Norah's connection to him?

None of it made sense, and it drove her crazy that neither woman would just give her a straight answer.

Gonzalez's expression hardened instantly. "No. Not since I made things clear to her the other day. What did she tell you?"
