Norah instantly understood his meaning. Her face flushed crimson. *[Mr. Hanson, are you asking for a bribe? Have you forgotten what happened to Trevor Cromwell?]*

Gonzalez: *[I don't mind, as long as you aren't the one who reports me!]*

Norah: *[I wouldn't be so sure about that!]*

Gonzalez: *[I bet you couldn't bear to.]*

Her heart skipped a beat. Biting her lip, she debated whether she should just ignore him, but his second message came through immediately.

Norah burst out laughing. *[Sacrificing myself for the company's bottom line? Do you really think I'd go that far, Mr. Hanson?]*

Gonzalez: *[No need for sacrifices. I couldn't bear that either.]*

Norah stared at the screen. There was no way to win a conversation with this man. The smooth lines just rolled off his tongue effortlessly!

She let out a soft scoff, turned to look out the car window, and didn't reply.

The phone chimed with another notification. She didn't want to look, but her curiosity about what else he could possibly say got the better of her. She unlocked the screen.

This time, it wasn't just her cheeks that burned; a sudden, spreading warmth settled deep in her chest.

In the trailing car, Jenny and Zane sat in tense silence. Jenny had been wearing a scowl the entire ride.

Zane, who was driving, threw a glance at her from the corner of his eye and tried to offer some comfort. "Isn't it a good thing we secured the Hanson project? It means the proposal you wrote was recognized. Your hard work wasn't wasted. You should be happy!"

No matter how Jenny looked at it, this was a crushing, humiliating defeat.

Norah told everyone to get back to work, then headed up to report to Adrian.

Jenny sneered to Gillian, "The second she gets a tiny bit of success, she can't wait to go show off to Mr. Chambers. It's pathetic!"

Gillian gave a dry, awkward laugh. "Mr. Chambers values her a lot, so she definitely doesn't want to disappoint him. Showing off is one thing, but I'm worried..."

She paused, lowering her voice. "I'm worried that she realized you were trying to set her up, and now she's going up there to complain to him!"
