Sara ventured a guess, "Was it because of Adrian? I heard the older generation trying to set you two up, and you've been hanging out with him all night. Did your wild man get jealous?"
Norah stopped in her tracks. So that was it.
She said softly, "Adrian and I aren't together like they think we are!"
"So, do you like Adrian, or the guy who kissed you today?" Sara probed.
Norah blurted out, "I don't like Adrian!"
Sara wasn't surprised. She silently lit a candle for a certain someone and chuckled, "So you like the wild man, then?"
A complex emotion flickered in Norah's eyes, but she stayed quiet.
Sara knew when to drop a joke. She didn't want to truly upset Norah or cause trouble for the man in question, so with a meaningful smile, she smoothly changed the subject.

After the evening banquet wrapped up, the Lamont family left the event together.
Once they arrived home, Norah linked arms with Janice as they walked upstairs. When they reached the second floor, she let go. "I'm going to my room to change!"
"Norah!" Janice called out, hesitating for a moment before saying, "Mrs. Chambers specifically mentioned you today. I know exactly what she was implying. What do you think? Do you like Adrian?"
Norah looked a bit surprised. "Adrian and I are just friends!"
"You two seem to get along really well," Janice pointed out.
Norah found it amusing. "Just because we get along doesn't mean we have to date, right? I get along great with Sara and Khloe, too."
Janice laughed helplessly. "Don't mix things up. That's entirely different."
"It's not different at all," Norah said, not wanting to explain further. "I'm tired!"
Janice pulled her into an affectionate hug. "Alright, we won't talk about it anymore. Go take a shower and get a good rest."
Norah nodded and turned back to her room.
When he texted to ask if she wanted to grab dinner, she bluntly turned him down.
This went on until Thursday night. By the time she got home, it was already nine-thirty. She was starving but didn't have the appetite for food. Grabbing a bottle of cold water from the fridge, she twisted the cap off and gulped down half of it.
As she left the kitchen and passed the entryway, she heard a strange noise coming from outside the door, sounding like something scratching at the wood.
Norah opened the door to find Circe waiting outside. The cat looked anxious, biting at the hem of her pants and tugging her toward the apartment next door.
"What's wrong?" Norah scooped Circe up.
Circe's eyes looked wet as she meowed urgently at her.
Norah's eyes flickered as she stepped toward his apartment.
The door to the apartment next door was left slightly ajar, leaving a small crack. Norah pushed the door open and walked in. The living room was dimly lit by a single floor lamp. Under the warm, yellow glow, a man was lying on his side on the sofa.
As soon as she stepped closer, a heavy scent of alcohol hit her.
