Carson strolled over to the dining table and unboxed the food one by one. Instantly, mouth-watering aromas filled the room.

Even without looking, Marina knew he had ordered grilled oysters, salt-baked lobster, and cumin lamb—all her favorites.

His voice drifted over again. "I ordered enough for two. Are you sure you don't want any?"

"I'm not eating," Marina replied flatly.

Carson didn't press her. He sat down and began eating his dinner at a leisurely pace.

Marina simply walked out to the balcony—the furthest spot from the dining room—and sat down to wait.

It was evening, and the river view was spectacular. She used to love sitting out here to draw, so the wait wasn't exactly a hardship.

In less than ten minutes, Carson finished. He washed his hands in the bathroom and, without waiting for Marina to remind him, went into the guest bedroom to fetch the sketchbook.

Looking at the familiar cover, Marina's heart skipped a beat. She hazily remembered the drawing she had done inside and wondered if Carson had seen it.

She took it from him, but it immediately felt wrong. Flipping it open, she saw it was completely blank. A brand new notebook!

Marina snapped her head up to glare at Carson.

Carson gave her a look of perfect innocence. "What's wrong?"

"This isn't my notebook. Mine was filled up."

Carson frowned. "Are you accusing me of embezzling your notebook?"

Marina was speechless.

Carson chuckled softly. "This is the only one I saw. Since you're the only one out of the two of us who draws, I assumed it was yours and called you. If you lost another one, just tell me how much it cost and I'll reimburse you."

Marina was even more exasperated. There was no way she was taking his money. "Forget it. Maybe I left it somewhere else. Thanks for calling me anyway."
