Chapter 35 Hijacking a Business Trip
Austin turned and walked away.
Alicia quickly jumped down and fussed with her appearance.
Her lips were slightly swollen from his kiss, a dead giveaway of what had just happened.
She hurriedly touched them up with a bright lipstick.
By the time she came out, Austin had already left the Burton Residence.
Aria was busy playing chess with the old man. Alicia’s mood sank.
She opened Austin’s contact and sent a message.
‘Mr. Burton, you’ve really misunderstood me. I’ve said I won’t go back to old flames. Where are you? Can we talk?‘
This time her message didn’t vanish into the void. His reply was swift.
‘I’m away on a business trip. Be back in five days.
‘I’ll be waiting,‘ she messaged back.
Alicia lost her appetite for everything and found an excuse to leave the Burton Residence.
The seven–day trial marriage with Austin would be up in five days.
She didn’t know if he planned it on purpose, but giving up had never been Alicia’s style.
She quickly checked Austin’s itinerary. It had been set a month ago, canceled two days prior, and now suddenly changed again.
Clearly, he was trying to avoid her, wasting these five days so he could return and reject her outright.
Alicia immediately bought a plane ticket.
There was still time to catch him at the airport.
She slipped into first class just minutes before boarding.
Unlike last time, she greeted him with a bright smile.
“Mr. Burton.”
Austin’s face betrayed nothing. His voice was cool. “What a coincidence, Ms. Gibson.”
“Not a coincidence. I came specifically to catch up with you.”
Alicia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and brightly smiled. “Seven days were promised. A day less or even a second less means it wouldn’t count as seven days.”

The man ignored her, as if she were just another passerby. His attitude mirrored his old self.
Alicia sighed. The mess she’d made was hers to deal with.
During the three years with David, she had plenty of emotional support from him.
He never gave her attitude, so she had no experience in coaxing men.
However, thinking back, whenever David interrupted her work and she got upset, he would shamelessly beg for her forgiveness.
Austin hadn’t ordered food or said a word. She didn’t know if he had slept.
Alicia lightly tapped on the door. “Mr. Burton, I’ve ordered food. Shall we eat together?”
“You don’t speak up, and I’ll come in myself.”
She opened the door and saw him sitting in the chair, watching a movie.
It was the same one she had casually picked last night.
Only this time, his expression was serious. It looked less like a romance and more like a thriller.
Alicia set down the food and pulled the divider closed.
Even in first class, the space felt a little tight for the two of them.
She plopped onto Austin’s lap.
Her arms wrapped around his neck. Her lips brushed his ear. “Mr. Burton, I’ll watch with you.”
“Or would you rather eat first? I ordered some wagyu beef. I can cut the steak for you.”
She gently tugged at his sleeve. “I never meant to play with you. David betrayed me. Even if I married a pig, it wouldn’t be him. I did what I did to provoke my sister. Whether we end up married or not, for these seven days, you’re my boyfriend. I need to make this clear, so please don’t misunderstand.”
Her pitiful, pleading look was hard to resist.
He stroked her cheek. “You really don’t miss him?”
Alicia was honest. “I can’t lie and say I never think of him. We were together for three years. There are memories I cherish. However, it’s not love anymore. Just habit.”
“Then, break that habit.”
“How?” Her big eyes blinked as she patiently waited.
He pressed close to her ear. “Get used to me and forget him.”
He pressed the button to recline the seat, trapping Alicia under him.
