Chapter 101
I go to walk away, when one of them grabs my arm. I look at his hand and then straight into his eyes. “Let go of my arm.” I say low but dripping with hate. “Oh, come on, don’t be like that. My man Derek over here is getting married in a couple of days. Do you guys do anything… You know… Behind the scenes. I’m sure he’d like a night with someone like you before he marries his ugly wife.” I look at him appalled. Who talks like that? I look over at his friend and see him undressing me with his eyes. Alright, time to get out of this. “We don’t offer any extra services. Now, let go of my arm or you’ll be asked to leave.” I say, knowing if I asked Jessica she wouldn’t think twice. Instead of letting me go, he pulls me in closer to him. Pressing my body to his, so I can feel him. He leans down and whispers in my ear, “I promise we’d make it worth your while, beautiful.” I’m going to throw up, but before I can respond or fight him off, he’s punched to the ground.
I look next to me and see Frank standing over him and Nick is standing beside me. The rest of the guys get up and get ready for a fight. I stand there stunned, and then the fight starts. Before I’m thrown in the middle of it, though, Nick pulls my arm and throws me out of the way. I fall into the table behind me and go crashing to the floor.
Before I can make a move to get up, I hear a gun shot ring across the bar. I throw my head into my knees, praying it’s not those guys who have a gun. “Get out of my bar now! Before I call the police!” I hear Jessica shout and without looking up, I hear the men running out of the bar.
I’m too scared to look, so I just stay in my fetal position. “Hey, they’re gone. You’re safe now.” I hear Nick’s voice and slowly raise my head. I see him looking at my arm concerned, so I follow his gaze. I have a cut about three inches wide on my arm, probably from when I fell. “I’m sorry Amber, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He looks at me guiltily. I smile, “I’m fine. I’ll take this over what they were planning any day.” I laugh and roll my eyes. I look up at Nick and he looks furious. He shakes his head, trying to hide his emotions and pulls on my other arm to help me up.
Jessica already has the first aid kit out and ready, when we make our way behind the bar. She looks over my cut and looks at me skeptically, “You really should get some stitches.” I glance up at her and slightly shake my head no, looking at the ground. I can’t afford to go to the hospital, and I don’t want to risk them finding out who I am, it’s not an option. She nods her head in understanding and searches for what she needs in the kit. A few butterfly bandages, gauze and wrap later my arms all bandaged up and ready to go. I tell her thank you, and then go get the things I’ll need to clean up this mess.
As I’m walking over to the tables, I look over and see Frank sitting back at his table. I walk over and sit in the chair across from him. “Thank you, Frank.” He smiles at me kindly. “I couldn’t let them hurt you, Amber. Or the precious lives growing in your stomach.”
