Full Moon Curse (by Dream) novel Chapter 100

Chapter 100

I’ve been working here for a few weeks now. I miss my home. I miss my friends, but I keep telling myself it’s for the best. Me being here, hidden, is keeping them safe. Every single night, Nick is here. I’ve finally gotten more comfortable with him, but he also hasn’t tried to hit on me anymore. I’m sure that helps. I’ve learned that he works at a car repair shop down the road and that he moved here a few years ago.

This town is like a haven for lost souls. Everybody that walks through the bar’s doors has a story. People started opening up to me after my first night of working here. It’s crazy the things people go through.

I lean on the counter next to Nick as he tells me about the guy that always comes in orders a beer and sits in the corner, without drinking the beer. He just sits there every night and doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t even have to order the beer, as soon as Jessica sees him, she has it ready for him.

“He came here a year ago, has never uttered a word.” I look at him wide eyed. “Never? How did he choose a beer?” I ask, honestly curious. Nick seems to think about it, “Um. I don’t know. Jessica?” He asks urging her to answer. She was obviously listening, and shrugs. “He gestured towards a beer, and I just kept going with it.” I think about it for a minute. Maybe he doesn’t like this beer. Maybe that’s why he never drinks it. “Jessica, you mind if I try something?” She looks at me questioningly and shrugs, “Sure, have at it.” I love her carefree attitude. Not to mention everything she’s done for me. She even gave me a ton of her daughters’ old clothes. She said she packed up and left one day with her boyfriend, so she wouldn’t be needing them.

This silent man becomes a game for us. Every night he comes in we try a different beer. So far, it’s the same thing, he doesn’t touch it.

A week later, I put a new beer on his table and start to walk away. “What’s your name?” My eyes widen as I turn around to face him. “Am… Amber.” I stutter completely surprised. He nods thoughtfully, “I’m Frank. Thanks for the beer, Amber.” He smiles. My eyes widen again as he takes a sip and looks then stares at the beer. I walk away with a smile and head for the bar. I see Jessica and Nick by the bar with their jaws open. I laugh at their expressions, “Guess we found it.” I say as they compose themselves.

A little while later, we all jump hearing the front door burst open with a bang. Five already very drunk guys, come barreling into the bar. They sit at a table in the middle of the room. They look like they’re celebrating. Their loud demeanors changing the whole atmosphere of this chill, cool vibe it usually has. Jessica rolls her eyes but walks over taking their drink order.

Once she’s made the drinks, it’s time for me to serve. I don’t know why, but I’m getting a bad feeling about this group. I walk over and hand them all their drinks. “Hey pretty thing, what’s your name?” A tall, broad man with black slicked back hair and brown eyes asks me. I smile, “Amber. Is there anything else I can get for you?” I ask nicely taking a step back from the man getting closer. I hear one of them whisper, at least I think he was trying to, “I can think of a couple things I could give to you.” I inwardly roll my eyes but hide the feelings from my face.
