Chapter 105
We’ve been on the road for a month, my stomach is already growing. Two months pregnant, or so I believe. I never learned about werewolf pregnancies. I don’t know when I’ll be giving birth. I also can’t get a checked up, so I have no idea if there are indeed two in there or if it’s healthy. We finally settle down in a town, we’ve heard rumors has a witch. We’ve had a lot of dead ends and fakes, but hopefully this one will work out. So, we settle into our motel and drive about five minutes until we see a store called witches’ brew.
We walk in and the store is dimly lit and has a heavy smell of incense. It looks like there’s everything you could use in a spell here. From feathers to rat skulls, love potions to curse potions. I mean if this lady is real, this is quite frightening.
I hear the beads rattle from the door in the back and I look up seeing a beautiful woman. She’s dark skinned with long braided dark chocolate colored hair, and stunningly bright brown eyes. She’s wearing a long deep purple dress that flows out down her body. She greets us with a smile, “Amy, glad you finally made it.” She says, causing me to go wide eyed with shock. She smiles again, “Guess you found the real deal, finally.” I just stare at her. Even if the witches we’ve been to had told her I might be coming, I’ve never used my real name. “Alright, do me!” Nick exclaims, clearly excited. I roll my eyes and she chuckles, “Nick, no time for games. Come let me help you two.” She smiles and turns around and starts walking towards the back. Nick stares at me wide eyed, as we follow her.
She takes us to a room in the back with books surrounding the walls and an old table that looks to be barely standing up. She tells Nick and I to sit at the table, and she walks over to the shelves of books.
She picks up a big dusty green leather bond book and brings it over, gently placing it on the table. She opens the cover and then waves her hand over the pages. The pages go flying until it suddenly stops. I look over at Nick, I’ve never seen anything like this, even in the pack. So, I’m sure he’s shocked, and by the look on his face I’d say I was right.
The change in her demeanor is obvious. She looks at me very serious, she’s all business now. “This is the spell that made your father the monster he is.” She says shoving the book closer to me. I look at the spell, not really sure what I’m supposed to do with this information. Not to mention I can’t read half of it. She sighs, “The moon man has been around for centuries. He’s supernatural, but he should have passed a long time ago. There’s no reason for him to be alive. He’s been dormant for years though. No packs have been attacked in almost eighteen years. The witches thought it was finally over, we thought he finally passed, but now we know better. None of us know the deal he made, but the witches are scared as well. He occasionally asks for the help of witches and if they don’t help or can’t they always end up dead.” She explains, I nod my head slowly. How do they not know the deal he made? It’s in the story. Maybe witches haven’t heard the story. “The deal he made. What I was told was he murders his children and the witch that cast the spell gets to keep their souls.” I look at her questioningly. I mean I could be wrong; it was just a bedtime story that I heard.
Her eyes widen and she reaches across the table to take the book back. She studies the text and seems to re-read it many times. She looks up at me, “There’s nothing in here about that. We knew he murdered his children, but we didn’t ever know why. If this is true information, I’m going to have to talk to my coven leaders.” I shake my head, “I don’t know how true it is. It just comes from a story I was told, when I lived with a pack. And the fact that he tried to kill me, once I took my necklace off.” I explain and she looks over at the necklace. She leans over the table and studies my necklace closely. “Your mother had a powerful friend; these are not easy to make.” She says. I look down, I don’t like thinking about my mother. I also don’t like thinking of the trouble she had to go through to protect us, and I ruined in a matter of five minutes.
