“Lulu table five!” My boss yells at me from across the bar, I sigh but make my way over. My new name, it never gets easier, but I have to change it any new place I go. I can’t risk anything. I’ve worked at six different bars over the years, never wanting to stay in one place for too long. The further I stay away from the pack the better, I can’t go back until I find everything I’m looking for. I’ve been living with humans, but it’s not hard to stay with them. With my necklace, that’s what I am essentially.

I still think about my friends daily, but I know I did the right thing. Their lives are more important than my stability. I put on my pretend smile, that I’ve perfected over the years. “Hi, what can I get for you guys.” I say soft and slow looking them over, it’s wrong, but the more the guy thinks you’re into them the more money I can make in tips. Which is something I need right now.

They both smirk at me, “Just two beers on draft, sweetie.” They say looking over my body. This bar isn’t the worst uniform I’ve had to have, but it’s also not the best. I’m wearing a black leather crop top and short high top black leather skirt. Luckily, we’re allowed to wear shorts under the skirt otherwise I’d hate it. I try my hardest to keep men’s hands away from me, but sometimes they slip through.

The night ends, after being hit on by countless guys but making a pretty penny in tips. I go home happy enough. When I walk through the door, I’m greeted by Nick. I smile at him, “We’re they good tonight?” I whisper as I start making my way down the hall. He smiles and nods following me. I creak the door open slowly and look at my two angels sound asleep.

They both wear a leather bond bracelet with the same pendant as mine. They know the importance of not taking them off. I make the story a kid’s version, but they know what I didn’t. I won’t be making the same mistake as my mom. They know why we can’t see their father, regardless of how much they want to meet him. They want to meet everybody from my past. They say I had some great friends, which makes me sad because we can never stay anywhere long enough for them to make good friends.

I’m working on that though; I’m going to figure out how to kill him. I have to. I refuse to let my children live their lives without knowing their father. Even if Liam never forgives me for leaving and keeping his children from him, I know him. I know he’ll want to know his children.

I slowly close the door on my sleeping babies and turn back to Nick. “Is Hazel asleep?” I ask and he nods. I sigh and start walking to my room, he follows me in there so we can talk. It’s almost time to move again, and he’s been trying to talk me out of it this time.

“Amy, please we have not seen any sign of him here. Let’s stay a little longer, let the kids stay in one place a little longer.” He says, I sigh, he’s trying to hit me where it hurts. “You know we can’t. If you don’t want to come, don’t,” I say, getting annoyed about having this conversation every night. It makes me feel like he’s starting to regret staying with me. I don’t blame him; I completely bulldozed his life.

He sighs heavily, “Fine, when are we leaving by?” He asks. “A week.” I answer, and with another sigh he leaves for his room, and I go and take a shower.

The next night, it’s time to go to work again. “So, you’re leaving us at the end of the week?” Whitney, the lead bartender asks. I nod, putting some tips into the front of my apron. “Damn, it was nice having a good employee here.” She tells me, with a sad face. I laugh, “There’s still a couple others.” I say, and her face contorts, and she rolls her eyes, causing me to laugh harder. “Waitress!” Some guy calls from the other side of the bar. I look down rolling my eyes and make my way over to him.

He smiles upon seeing me get closer. “Me and my friends need a refill!” He shouts, I smile and go make his drinks. “Careful, that one likes to get handsy.” Whitney whispers to me, I roll my eyes. “What’s new?” I say, she smiles. “Oh, the world we live in.” She says under her breath walking away.
