Chapter 222

“I didn’t mean it.” I whisper and Heather just shakes her head with a disappointed smirk on her face. “Clara. That’s the last person. Hell, Griffon! She even tried to help her parents! She never just hates someone without there being a reason. You say you didn’t mean it, but do you think that’ll matter when she finds out you said it? Goddess, she’s going to be heartbroken, and all you have to say is you didn’t mean it!” She yells.

I don’t have anything to say, so I don’t speak.

She’s right. My mother is going to be heartbroken if she hears what I said.

She sighs, like she can see everything I’m thinking, and maybe she can to some extent. Twins always have a strong bond. Even stronger for wolves. Our wolves are twins as well, and their connection is undeniable.

She looks around the room again, like she’s searching for something to change the subject with.

She looks back at me with confusion, “You two aren’t sharing a room?” She asks and I close my eyes and take a deep breath shaking my head. Her eyes narrow and she tilts her head. “Why?”

I shake my head, then shrug. “She’s not ready.” I explain and her brows furrow further with confusion.

My eyes light up, finally feeling like I can talk about it with someone. “That’s not normal, is it?” I ask her and she starts studying me again.

She turns and walks to the edge of the bed, then jumps up on it. “Um… I mean it wasn’t my experience. I would say it’s… Different.” She says unsure and I let out a deep sigh, then walk over and sit next to her on the bed. “She barely lets me touch her. Maybe that’s why I feel I need to defend her with everything I have, because I’ve never felt so insecure about anything in my entire life. I feel like I could lose her at a moments notice and that terrifies me. She’s my mate, Heather.” I whisper and the look of pity fills her face.

“That’s strange, Griff. Mates are supposed to make you feel like you can take on the world. They’re supposed to support you, walk next to you and love you. I don’t understand why she’s still making you prove yourself when I’d say you have more than proved that you’re willing to do anything for her.” She tells me and I just want to shout, EXACTLY, but I don’t. I keep that to myself.

The door to my room opens and we both look up to see Nadia walk in. My focus goes entirely to her. Micah walks in behind her, “They just want to talk in private for a moment.” Micah explains, but Nadia’s glare doesn’t move from my sister.

“I don’t think my and Griffon’s love life is any of your business.” Nadia growls, as she walks closer to me and stands between my knees, then runs her fingers through my hair. Probably the most affection she’s ever shown

Heather stands and walks over to Micah, “Griffon just wanted to discuss some things.” Heather tells her and Nadia’s body stiffens, and a low growl leaves my throat at my sister making my mate so uncomfortable.

“She’s right. It’s none of your business.” I growl at Heather, looking up at Nadia, as she smiles down at me. Her head turns towards my sister, an evil smirk playing on her lips.

Micah steps forward to be between Nadia and Heather, but Heather just looks over at me.

Her face full of sadness. “You’re going to lose everyone you’ve ever cared about, Griff. Figure your shit out before that happens.” She whispers, before turning around and walking out the door.

A stab hits my heart as I watch her leave, but it disappears when I look back up at Nadia. She smiles down at me her fingers still playing in my hair.

When hear the front door shut, and like a flip switched in her mind, she pulls away and walks out of my bedroom. Leaving me behind and left gaping after her.

Once she’s out of the room, my mind starts to come back to me again. What just happened?
