Chapter 278
As I stand next to my car with Randy and Finn, I look out at the stage, that’s being torn to the ground. It feels surreal that changes are already being made since Liam and Amy got back.
My eyes turn to Griffon walking over to us with Lenny; I guess they’ve made up. Griffon watches the destruction of the stage without a care in the world. Actually, it looks like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders as he laughs about something Lenny says to him.
“Hey, guys.” Lenny greets us as we get closer. Griffon just looks between us, probably not sure how we all feel about him. “Hey, Lenny.” I greet him back and walk into his hug.
I ignore the glare Griffon gives us, doesn’t matter if Lenny is his friend or not. The mate bond will never like another man touching your mate. I pull away. “Okay, you two are riding over with the warriors, and we’ll be following you.” I explain the beginning of the plan.
They both nod and the warriors step forward to walk to Griffon’s car. Cam and Norman; Norman has been a warrior since Griffon took over. Cam smiles at me as he passes and I turn to get in the car.
We make it to Kirksville a little before we should have, thanks to Griffon’s speeding, but I’m happy about it. I’m really hoping we find something here.
I get out and move to the trunk to grab the empty bag I brought to bring anything we find. Then turn around when I hear the people in the other car moving closer. Griffon watches me throw the bag over my shoulder with intensity. I know he still wants to talk about us, but I meant what I said, I’m not talking about us until things get better between him and our family.
But it is nice having him here. This bond is killing me. Having to fight it at every turn is exhausting. It would be so much easier to just give in, but I don’t want to let him off the hook that easily.
His speech was heartfelt and sounded sincere, but if he’s only doing it to get his mate, then it really means nothing. I want him to do this for him. I want him to want our families forgiveness for him.
“Okay so, the plan is to go in the same way you went in before. So, Griffon you’re in the lead. You were the only one of us to go through the tunnels with the others.” I tell him, and he nods before looking at everyone we have with us.
“Alright. Let’s get this over with then.” Griffon growls, looking back at the area they went into the secret tunnels that they followed Heather into.
I hadn’t really considered the fact that coming here would be hard for him. He volunteered, but in retrospect that was probably just to make sure I stayed safe.
Hell, now I feel bad. I don’t want him to have to go back into the place where his parents were tortured, but we don’t have any choice now.
