After the dinner party I leave alone, wanting to spend some time with myself and the moon.
I shift into my wolf and take off into the woods. Feeling the fresh air flying through my fur and stopping in a clearing to howl up at the moon.
An echoing howl comes from across the way, and I internally smile. I wish life could always feel this carefree.
Before I can think much else though, my wolf falls to the ground, and I start falling into the abyss of darkness again.
I come to in a room full of everyone I love. Their faces ranging from mad to furious as we all look at each other.
Seeing myself in a vision is something, but I try to focus on what’s happening. Why I need to see this.
“We’ll leave. I’m not going to fight all of you on this. The fact that any of you think this is a good idea, tells me it’s time to move on anyway.” Liam snarls and mom shakes her head, “It’s what she wants Liam. The red moon is getting closer, and the witch is draining her. She’s not going to have any ability to fight back.” Mom says, my dad taking a step in front of her, like he needs to protect her.
“I don’t care. It hasn’t come to that. Not yet.” Liam growls and Griffon steps up next to him. “He’s right. Why are you all giving up before we need to?” Griffon asks.
I look at Hazel as she moves to stand on mom’s side. “We haven’t found anything. We haven’t found more on the doll. We haven’t found anything on how to stop this.” Hazel explains and Liam looks back at Dallas, “And you?” He asks, and Dallas closes his eyes and looks up at Liam. “I don’t know.” He whispers and Liam growls, ” Pick a side, Dallas.” He glares at Liam.
“I’m on Amy’s side; the problem is I don’t want her to die, even if she does.” He growls and I swallow as I look at my vision self as she stands between the two sides and looks back and forth at them. I can feel what she’s feeling like I’m experiencing this myself.
“Our downfall. Everyone split…” I stop and Griffon looks at me even more intensely. “Split on what?” He growls and I take a deep breath, sad eyes looking up into his. “Weather or not to kill your mother.” I whisper and he lets go of me and stands up. Walking a few feet away and stopping.
“Who was for it?” He growls and I shake my head even though he isn’t looking at me. He turns and I make sure to keep my eyes trained on his. “Who, Aspen?” He asks again and I shake my head. “I’ll make sure it doesn’t come to that.” I whisper and his jaw clenches.
He takes a deep breath and comes closer to me, sitting down next to me. “I’m not sure how much more I can handle, Aspen.” He whispers, his eyes gleaming in the moonlight, then he looks down at the ground trying to hide his weaknesses from me.
I get up on my knees and pull his face to look at mine, “We’ll handle whatever comes, because we don’t have a choice. We’ll handle it all, because we have to. We’ll be strong so everyone else can feel what they need to feel to get through this.
We’ll be the pillar this time. The strength this family needs to make it through all of this and still make it out the other side. Okay?” I ask him and he gives me a curt nod, his eyes burning into mine.
