Chapter 312
I watch as my mate settles everything we’ve been arguing for the last hour within minutes. Fuck. I may not deserve to be future Alpha, but she deserves to be future Luna.
All the Alphas decide to help, every last one of them, even those reluctant to do so. At least until the red moon comes closer then we’ll readjust, form other plans.
Our timeline hasn’t had to change; we’ve always had til the red moon to figure things out, but I feel like our safety net has been ripped out from under us. We’ve been able to try and figure things out quietly and under the table, but now that they all know, the other Alphas are going to want updates and reports and I just know if they don’t like what they hear, they’ll start to harass my dad until he gives them something that’ll make them feel better.
My mom’s really making us work up here, but I get it. I get why she felt the need to do this. She wouldn’t be her if she didn’t think everyone deserves to know that they might die.
I also really think something else is going on with her. I’ve never seen her so upset before. She has always kept a level head around me, it was clear she didn’t know I was there, because as soon as she saw me, she calmed down. But it was clear dads dealt with that side of her before, but even he couldn’t help her. Maybe the witch is fucking with her. Making her go a little bit crazy.
I really don’t know, but I also really didn’t like it. She seemed lost and broken, almost like she’s lost all hope. I can’t imagine how dad feels seeing her like that. I can’t imagine having to see Aspen like that. Aspen’s always so strong, I’ve only seen her break down a few times my entire life and none of those times did she scare me as much as my mom did.
I look over at dad, as he watches the last of the Alphas leave from his chair in the head of the table. His face withdrawn and broken and go to sit down next to him.
I don’t speak, but I figure just being here for him is enough, “Your mom… She’s just going through a lot.” He tells me, and my eyes look up to meet his. “I know, dad.” I tell him and his lips tighten as he gives me a curt nod. “I know. It’s just. You shouldn’t have had to see her like that… She wouldn’t have wanted you to see her like that.” He tells me, and I nod again. “I don’t think any less of her. She’ still one of the strongest people I know. Anyone who could think differently is just stupid. She may not be able to fight like a warrior, but her minds always been strong.” I tell him.
