Chapter 317
I walk down to the cells a few days later. Liam’s been trying to recruit more witches, but it’s tricky because we don’t know who to trust. Even Hazel isn’t sure how to know for sure we can trust them, even with the help of Gabby the witch Renolds sent over here.
We’re not even one hundred percent sure we can trust her.
And on top of all of that, Amy’s stopped eating.
Liam, Dallas, Griffon, everyone’s been trying to get her to eat something, but apparently, she’s just been sitting in the back corner staring at the bars.
I decided I’d give it a shot. I still haven’t told anyone about what I know about her, and she can’t not eat in her situation. So, while they’re all concerned, they don’t know the actual severity of her not eating.
I get down to the cells, and see Dallas sitting outside hers, just staring into the cell. I walk up next to him, but he doesn’t stop staring at her. “What are you doing?” I whisper like she can’t hear me, but I know she does. She doesn’t move though. Her eyes staying focused on Dallas like they’re having a staring contest.
“I don’t think it’s Amy, but I don’t know for sure.” He whispers back. Amy continues to not move, not showing any emotion to what he says.
My eyes narrow on her, trying to figure out if he’s right or not. While this behavior isn’t like Amy, she has been doing things like this since the witch entered her. Almost going catatonic at times. Especially when big things happen and she feels more out of control.
“What makes you think it’s not her?” I ask him, still staring at Amy. “Something about her eyes. Almost like their dead. Do you see it?”
I look a little closer. The gleam of hopelessness that I’ve seen in Amy’s eyes lately isn’t there. The spark of trust she seems to have around us.
He’s right. Her eyes don’t look right.
