Chapter 32

to

Fuck! We were all finally starting to get along so well. She even finally started wanting to include me. When she said she wanted me at her birthday dinner I was surprised, but so happy. I was finally being included by her, after everything I’ve done. All the ‘friends’ in the world, but lately the only one I cared about is her. And now, find out how much me leaving her when we were young affected her, I want revenge. I stand up, ready to go find Clara. “No! We still don’t have proof! You are not allowed to do anything until we know for certain!” My dad shouts, reading my mind. Unfortunately, for Dallas he was the closet thing to me at the time. I throw him to the ground, screaming curses and charge out of the room.

I went down to the game room and started pacing the floor. I hear Walker and Dallas join me. “Why the fuck are they saying we set her up!” I scream looking over at them, when I notice Mia came with them. “I think it’s pretty obvious.” Walker states but doesn’t elaborate, walking over to the couch. I roll my eyes and encourage him to continue. “Clara loves you, Olive loves Dallas and Kylie loves Cole or me depending on her mood. We’ve barely talked to them since we started hanging out with Amy and Mia. They wanted her to believe we don’t actually like her, so we’ll start hanging with them again. At least that’s my theory, and that’s only good if it was indeed them that hurt her.” He shrugs, and grabs a couple drinks from the fridge.

His logic does make since. “So, we start hanging with them again, do you think they’ll leave Amy alone?” Dallas asks, Mia looks at him like he’s stupid. “Yeah, no. First, their attacks might not be as bad, but you guys being with them never stopped them before. And second, you start hanging with them again, you can just forget about Amy. She won’t want anything to do with you. And it’ll push her point more that you guys were indeed the ones that set her up.” Mia rushes, I look down. There’s just no good solution. “Honestly, I don’t care if it keeps her safe. We can still protect her from the shadows, but at least that will be one threat taken care of.” Dallas responds, but I can see the pain it’s causing him. “Wait, what do you mean one threat? Is there another threat to be worried about?” Mia asks confused. We all look between each other, not answering her.

“Just assuming there’s another threat. In case Clara wasn’t the one who attacked.” Walker answered from his spot on the couch, man he’s on his game today. Dallas and I relax when that seems to make sense to Mia. I don’t think Mia knows about the other threat to Amy, considering Amy doesn’t even know, and the way our moms were whispering about it, I assume they don’t want people knowing. “It doesn’t matter, I don’t think I can physically be around Clara without wanting to rip her head off. I’ve been having trouble being around her lately before this.” I say, knowing it’s the truth. Everything about her disgust me. All I’ve been able to think about for the last month is Amy. And if I’m being honest, I don’t think I’ve stopped thinking about her since we were kids. I’ve always done what I could to help her and try and pull Clara away before things got too serious, but even I knew it wasn’t enough. I’ll never be able to make up for my past mistakes, I should have never ditched her as a friend in the first place. If I could go back, there are so many things I would change.

“I need to know. I need to know who did this.” I say walking towards the door. “Please, just wait. She needs to cool off and you barging over there isn’t going to help.” Mia explains, but my anger has already gotten the better of me. “I don’t care! I have to do something! She’ll break, I just have to push the right buttons.” I shout and start my stride over to her house.

I see Cole’s eyes widen as I get closer, and I start to push past him. He puts his hand on my chest trying to stop me. “Knock it off, Cole. I need to talk to her!” I yell and he looks at me wide eyed again. “Liam, man, don’t ruin this. She’s finally able to sleep now. You go in there you’ll ruin the setup you put into place. Dude she’s still not awake, she was so sleep deprived. Just let her be. I got her. You storming in there isn’t going to help us gain her trust back.” He reasons calmly. I sigh, giving up my fight. He’s right. I look up at her window, I can’t believe she’s still asleep.
