Chapter 36

+25 Bonus

Me and the guys are standing in front of Amy’s house waiting for Walker to get here, when we see his suv. Walker parks and jumps out and goes to the passenger side. He opens the door and then leans in and grabs Amy bridal style from the suv. She’s sleeping soundly in his arms, and I can feel my anger starting to amp up. I go to grab her from Walker’s arms, and he pulls her away from me. He seems to think of something and then allows me to take her. I shoot him a what the fuck look, to which he just shrugs and looks down at Amy.

I carry her up the stairs, and lay her down on the bed covering her with blankets. I start to leave when she grabs my hand. I turn around quickly to see if she needs something, and her eyes are still closed. “Liam, I’m sorry about all of this. I wish I was a wolf so maybe none of this would be happening.” She opens her eyes and looks up at me, her eyes are brimming with tears. “Don’t you dare apologize. None of this is your fault. We like you just the way you are.” I tell her, her eyes are having trouble staying open. “Now.” She whispers, “What?” I ask not sure if I heard her right. She settles further into her bed, “You like me now, but not before. That doesn’t make any sense.” She whispers and falls back asleep. I stand there and stare at her shocked. When her mom comes in, “Thank you for getting her home. She’s sleeping. Can you come down here and talk to me?” She whispers and smiles slightly, trying not to wake up Amy. I nod and follow her out.

I’m still reeling from what Amy said when her mom starts talking, “So, did you keep an eye on Amy today? Did everything go well?” She asks and I nod, “Yeah, things were fine.” Not wanting to rat out Amy, if she doesn’t want her mom knowing. “Look Liam, I know she missed the last half of school. The teachers are paying extra attention to her now, and I got a call earlier.” She says and I sigh. “It’s nothing, there are just some rumors going around about the attack, and I think they got to her. Walker stayed with her and made sure she was safe.” I respond the best I can. She looks up towards Amy’s room. “Okay, thank you. She won’t need a ride tomorrow.” She says and I look at her confused. “May I ask why?” I ask needing to know. She sighs loudly, “I think it’s time to homeschool her. She’s already ahead in school, I think homeschool is the best option. She never says anything, but I have to assume this attack isn’t the first. She’ll be safer at home.” I hate this plan with every fiber of my being, but she might be right. I don’t feel like Amy’s safe at school, she has to many classes that none of us are in. We can’t always be around to protect her at school. “Alright go home, birthday boy. I’m sure your mom has plans for you. Thank you for bringing Amy home, and happy birthday, Liam.” She smiles, and I thank

her and walk out.

I come outside to all the guys waiting for me. I just get straight to the point, because I know they’re waiting for it. “Heather says she’s going to start homeschooling Amy.” I look around and I feel like everyone has the same opinion. They don’t want it to happen, but they think it might be for the best too. It’s really crazy how attached everyone is to Amy now. Two months ago, none of us talked to her, now we’re having trouble imagining going to school and her not being there.

“What did you guys talk about?” Dallas asks Walker. “A few things, but essentially, she said she’d be nicer to us, but she doesn’t want to be friends with us. I think whoever attacked her really freaked her out. She seems terrified of retribution that she’ll get for hanging out with us.” Walker answers, and Cole looks down. “Can’t really blame her. She’s human, and those people beat her as if she’d heal to quickly and try a retaliate.” Cole says, seemingly looking for something to punch. This whole thing has everyone on edge. “So, now we’ll never see her.” Dallas says sadly looking down. “She’s going to be homeschooled and she doesn’t want to be our friend. She’ll have no reason to come out of her house ever again.” Dallas finishes. I look back at the house, remembering what she said. She doesn’t want any of this. She wants a normal life, and she’ll never get it here. She’ll never get it from us. Maybe this is all for the best. She won’t have to worry about being beaten and she won’t have to worry about the drama that comes along with us.

Dallas places his hand on his heart and starts rubbing it into his chest hard. “You good, man?” Cole asks Dallas.
