Chapter 38

Dallas is standing over Clara, while she’s bleeding from her nose. I feel Amy tense and try and step out of my arms, but I tighten my grip. “What the fuck are you doing dancing with her?” Clara screeches accusingly at me. I roll my eyes, “Dallas, get her out of here.” I say nonchalantly and look down at Amy. She looks terrified, this face confirms to me that it was Clara who hurt her. My dad still won’t let me do anything until Amy admits it though. “Amy, are you okay?” I ask, because her face has me nervous. She has her flight face on, and I really want her to stay. She looks up at me, like she’s seeing me for the first time. “Huh? Oh, yeah, I’m fine.” She shakes her head a little, seemingly trying to shake away whatever feeling she’s feeling. After a couple seconds she looks up at me and smiles again. “I’m fine. Let’s keep dancing.” She says, while I hear Clara shouting nonsense as Dallas and Walker escort her out, but that all disappears when Amy presses herself to me again.
We dance for what feels like hours, until she says she’s thirsty. I sit her next to Dallas and I go get her some water. When I come back, she’s nearly passed out on his shoulder. I hand her the water, and she thanks me. Then she looks over at Dallas, “Can you take me home, please. My heads starting to hurt, and I’m about to pass out.” She asks Dallas sweetly. It hurts a little that she didn’t ask me, but I feel like this is her way of making him feel better after everything they’ve been through lately.
He agrees and I walk with them to my front porch. She’s walking so slow; she must really be tired. Dallas steps down a couple steps and tells her to jump on. She laughs but jumps on his back. I follow him across the street, he really can’t protect her well if she’s on his back. At least that’s what I tell myself. He walks slower than normal, probably savoring the feeling that she doesn’t hate us. I can’t blame him. We walk in the house and once all the parents see Amy, who’s fallen asleep on Dallas’s shoulder, they jump up. “Is she okay?” Dad asks. “Did something happen?” Heather asks walking over to her. “I’m fine, my head just hurts, and I’m tired.” Amy speaks up grumpily and digs her head further into Dallas’s neck. Yep! I’m jealous. They all chuckle, and Heather shoves us up the stairs.
I pull Amy off Dallas’s back and gently lay her down. I see her pills and hand her one with some water that’s beside the bed. She takes both and lays her head down on the pillow. Dallas and I start to head out, but Amy grabs my arm. “Liam, will you stay with me for a little bit? Just til I fall asleep?” She asks sweetly. Well, I’m definitely not saying no. I sit down on the bed and see Dallas smirk a little looking back at us before he leaves shutting the door. I take off her shoes and then mine and get on the other side of the bed. I lay down and put my arms behind my head, watching her. She slides closer to me, until her head is resting on my chest and her casted arm clings to my shirt. I place my arm around her and pull her even closer. Then I don’t move a muscle, because she’s already fallen asleep, and I don’t want to move and disturb her. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
