Chapter 79

+25 Bonus

Liam walks back to me, and pulls me into him, needing the closeness right now. For some reason, I didn’t consider I’m not alone in this. I wasn’t the only person who loved my mom, that’s clear to me now as I look around and see everybody here. I may have been her only daughter, but I’m definitely not alone.

The service ends, and everybody heads to Liam’s house for the reception. Liam doesn’t let go of my hand the whole time as I walk around listening to everybody’s stories about my mom. I always knew she was an amazing person, but the way they talk about her, like she was a gift from the Goddess herself makes me see her in a different light.

People start leaving and I decide to head up to my room. Liam drops me off at the door and I turn around to look at him. “Thank you, Liam.” I say and I see his eyes go wide. It’s the first time he’s heard me speak; he clearly wasn’t expecting it. He smiles, “Wait here.” He tells me then runs to his room, he’s back within the second. He hands me a black hoodie with his favorite band on the front. I look at him confused. “I know you’re not sleeping, and I think my scent calms you. Just please wear it and try to get some sleep.” I smile and nod taking the hoodie, because he’s not wrong. I’d been wearing his hoodie nightly before the attack, letting it calm me to sleep. He smiles at me and closes the door, I think he wants me to think he’s walked away, but I know he’s still outside my door. Waiting for when I might need him. Which only makes me smile more.

I finally fall asleep and drift into a dream. I see my father, he’s coming after me. His eyes bright red, nothing but hatred on his face. My mom runs up to him, trying to hold him back. He turns his anger to her and snaps her neck right in front of me. I scream and yell for her, but she doesn’t move. His face flashes to mine, with a creepy evil smile and bright red eyes focused on me. He starts running to me, “No!” I scream, but it doesn’t slow him. I turn to run but he pounces on my back. My moms face appears in front of me, “This is all your fault!” She screams. That’s last thing I remember before I wake up to someone screaming my name. “Amy! Amy, wake up!” I hear as I’m shaken out of my nightmare. It takes my eyes a minute to focus, and I can feel my body drenched in sweat. “Liam?” I ask pinching myself, making sure I’m awake. “Goddess, you terrified me. Are you okay?” He asks as he pulls me into him holding me tightly. I see a figure at the end of the bed, and jump, pushing myself as far away as Liam’s arms will let me go. The figure runs to turn on the lights, and I see its Dallas. My brain calms down and my whole body relaxes.

Until I think back on my dream. That was terrifying, but it had to just be my subconscious, right? Liam looks me over, “It wasn’t real. Whatever you saw. It wasn’t real.” Liam says trying to calm me down, I nod and go to sit up on the bed. I notice at some point I grabbed Liam’s hand and now I’m sure I won’t be getting that back soon. I look at Liam, “It wasn’t real.” Trying to convince myself further. He nods slowly, and takes a deep breath, pulling my head to his chest. It doesn’t matter how hard I fight it, this is where I feel I need to be.
