Full Moon Curse (by Dream) novel Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Dallas and I wait outside the bathroom, for Amy to finish her shower. She finally slept, but you can read it all over her face that it wasn’t peaceful. “She talked.” Dallas says softly, I nod. “Progress, slow, but it’s happening.” I say, a little excited that she’s finally talking, but trying not to get my hopes up to high in case she regresses. He smiles and looks at the ground, seemingly thinking the same thing I am.

Amy walks out in black leggings and a blue t-shirt and looks at both of us. She sighs and comes over sitting between the two of us. She grabs one of each of our hands and lays her head down on my shoulder. “I want to get out today. Maybe a walk?” She asks taking her head off my shoulder and looking at me then at Dallas. We both smile, “Of course, Aims.” Dallas answers, putting his head on her shoulder. We both couldn’t be happier, the most she’s gotten out is walking to a car. This could be good for her.

It’s only a little after six, so we head down to make something to eat. I make Amy’s favorites, chocolate ship pancakes and bacon. When I place them in front of her, she stares at them for a while and then shakes her head. She picks up her fork and starts eating. She’s actually eating, I haven’t seen her eat in a month, it makes me smile. I don’t know if the pills are finally working or if something’s finally convinced her that this isn’t her fault. Dallas and I don’t say anything though, we don’t want her to stop. She could eat everything in this kitchen right now for all I care, I’m just so happy to see it happening.

Once we finish, the sun is finally coming up. We walk outside and ‘conveniently’ run into the rest of our friends waiting for us. They all want to see her progress to. We take a walk on the sidewalk, down the street. I suddenly hate the fact that she’s lived across from me her whole life, but she doesn’t even glance in the direction of her house though. We’re all talking just keeping it casual when Amy speaks still wrapped in my arms, “We should throw a party.” Not exactly the words you expect to hear from someone whose mom’s funeral was yesterday. We all look at each other concerned, “Don’t do that. All of you are graduating in a week. That deserves to be celebrated.” She says looking between all of us.

No one seems to know what to say so I speak up, “I just don’t think we need to worry about that right now.” She looks up at me, “It’s exactly what I want to be worried about right now.” She says dryly. She wants her mind off things, and I won’t be the one to refuse her that. “Okay.” I look up at my friends, “We’re having a party!” I tell them, their faces trying to fawn happiness. I look down at Amy and see a genuine smile spread across her face. It’s the best part of my day, seeing her actually happy about something. Everyone seems to notice, “Okay, but I want a bounce house!” Cole exclaims to her smiling. “And a pony!” He yells and Amy actually laughs out loud, ” A pony?” She asks, and Cole holds his head high nodding. She laughs again, “You guys would break a pony. I’ll get you a horse.” She says with finality, and Cole gives her a mock offended look. Everyone starts laughing as we keep walking down the street.

We’re on our way back to my house and we can tell Amy’s getting tired. We’re all walking at a snail pace trying to stay next to her. Dallas walks in front of her and bends down on one knee. She doesn’t even pause, she just falls onto his back letting him carry her. We make it home and Amy’s eyes are closed, so we carry her upstairs to her room. We lay her down on her bed and Dallas and I go sit outside her door. We’ve been hanging out here every night in case she needs us.

Dallas looks over at me, “Do you really think we’re getting her back?” He asks in a whisper; I look up at the ceiling and back at him. “I don’t know. I hope so, but I don’t think she’ll ever be the same person again. She’s been through too much. You know?” He nods in agreement and looks at her door. I can’t imagine what she’s going through. I mean her dad killed her mom. How does someone just get past that?

About an hour later, Amy’s door opens. She looks down at me and reaches out her hand. I take it, looking over at
