Chapter 87
A few hours later, Amy finally wakes up, and just stares at the ceiling. She doesn’t say anything but gives both of us a small smile, and lifts herself over me and off the bed walking to her room. We both follow her, and she heads straight for the shower. Once she shuts the door on us, Dallas and I look at each other, hoping like hell she isn’t regressing.
She comes out in her towel, as Dallas and I wait on her bed. She sees us and smiles rolling her eyes, then heads inside her closet to get dressed. When she walks out in jean shorts and t-shirt, I instantly know we’ll be going outside today. I was hoping that she’d want to rest today, but I would guess that’s not happening. She walks over to me and throws her body into my lap; my arms instantly wrap around her tightly.
Once she’s gotten whatever strength she needs from me she stands up and holds out a hand to both Dallas and me. We both happily take her hands and we let her lead us to wherever she wants to take us.
She walks us all the way to the beginning of a big mountain, and looks over at Dallas. Some sort of silent conversation and Dallas smirks and bends down on one knee for her. She walks behind him and jumps on his back, and we starts hiking up the mountain. I smile watching her, she’s so perfect.
We hike the whole mountain, and finally make it to the very top. Amy jumps off Dallas’s back and walks over to the edge of the mountain looking out at the scenery. We just stand there watching her for an hour, letting her have her time. I’m sure she’s trying to think through everything she’s been going through in her whole life. She sits down at the edge of the mountain, making me extremely nervous, and throws her head in her hands.
Dallas and I both react, knowing that she needs us now. We both sit on either side of her and place an arm around her. I place my other hand on her knee, still being nervous that she’s so close to the edge. I’ve never seen her cry so hard before. It’s like she’s letting the pain of everything that has ever hurt her out right now. We don’t say anything we just let her cry, trying to give her strength through our touch.
When we get to the bottom of the mountain, Cole is waiting for us. I mind-linked him, thinking she could use someone to make her laugh. He grabs her instantly and throws her on his back, with both of them laughing. He starts skipping away, and we have to fast walk to keep up. “I have a surprise for you, Buttercup.” Cole says looking over his shoulder to see her. She laughs, “What’s that?” She asks smiling. He smirks and takes off running, I hear her scream, throw her head down, and start laughing. I roll my eyes at Dallas who’s smiling, and we take off to keep up with them.
Cole races into the bounce house and drops Amy off his back. He starts jumping and pulls Amy off the ground making her jump higher than I’m sure she ever has before. The smile and laughter on her face, is all I wanted to see right now. She’s happy, for the moment and I can’t ask for more, more than moments.
