Colette didn’t seem bothered by that at all and simply moved to another section to choose her own dress.

Agatha had selected three options for me, each with a distinct style. One was a deep sapphire silk gown with intricate gold embroidery and a dramatic train that gave it a regal, vintage feel. Another was a sleek silver dress with a metallic sheen, cut close to the body with a plunging neckline that made it look modern and refined. The third was a soft lavender backless dress with an asymmetrical hemline that added a sense of movement and lightness.

They were all beautiful, but none of them really matched my taste, and I didn’t care enough to be picky.

I’ll take this one,” I said, choosing the lavender dress because it looked the easiest to move in.

Great choice, Miss Soren,” the stylist said with a practiced smile as she quickly brought over a delicate diamond necklace. The fine chain rested neatly along my collarbone, and the small diamond at its center added just the right amount of detail without overpowering the open- back design.

While she worked on my hair, Colette returned after changing into her own dress. She had chosen a pale yellow gown, simple and understated, perfectly in line with her usual style.

Even so, her background as a direct member of the Soren family and a pureblood high- ranking wolf lineage gave her an effortless elegance that didn’t rely on anything flashy.

She glanced at me briefly, then looked away without comment.

Unlike Janice and the others, there was no obvious disdain in her eyes when she looked at someone without a wolf. That alone made her different, and it was probably why Lyra never reacted to her the way she did to Janice.

Once we were ready, we left with Agatha and headed to the banquet.

The Flores family gathering was filled with influential figures from every major pack, and the entire venue buzzed with conversation, laughter, and quiet displays of status and power.

The moment I walked in beside Agatha, I could feel the shift as attention turned in our direction.

My dress traced the line of my waist, and the open back, paired with the movement of the asymmetrical hem, made every step feel light and fluid.

Whispers began almost immediately.

Who is that girl with Agatha? I don’t even sense a wolf from her, but she’s stunning.

I don’t remember the Soren family having someone like her.

That’s Nira, from a branch family. Damon’s daughter from Blazeborn Pack.

Oh right, now I remember. Isn’t she the one engaged to Kade? I thought that was just a rumor. A girl without a wolf being his mate sounds ridiculous.

There’s no way that engagement will actually stick. She’s probably just holding the title for now. It won’t last.

Across the room, Valerie’s gaze locked onto me, her wolf eyes sharp as something dark flickered through them before disappearing just as quickly. She clenched her hands slightly, then called someone over and began whispering instructions.

Nira’s POV:

As I stepped further inside, Lyra stirred, picking up a familiar and distinctly hostile scent nearby.

It didn’t take long for me to spot Valerie among the crowd.

I gave her a faint, dismissive smile before looking away, unwilling to give her more attention than she deserved.

Agatha kept me close, introducing me to one person after another, and I maintained a polite smile while counting down the time in my head. If I hadn’t intentionally kept Janice and Aven from attending, I wouldn’t have agreed to come at all. In my opinion, standing here exchanging meaningless pleasantries with strangers was far less appealing than staying home and continuing my research.

I understood that events like this were meant for building connections, but as the future Alpha of Silvermoon Pack, I didn’t need that kind of exposure. My adoptive father had made it clear long ago that Silvermoon should remain hidden to avoid unnecessary conflict.

When Agatha became occupied with another conversation, I quietly stepped away.

Eyes followed me as I moved through the crowd, drawn by both my appearance and the label of being Kade’s fiancée, but I ignored them. I picked out a few desserts I liked and was
