I smiled calmly. “Don’t worry. I wouldn’t have offered if I wasn’t confident I could pull it off. But this isn’t going to be a quick fix. I’ll need full cooperation.”

As I spoke, I got off the bed and walked over to the nearby table. I grabbed a glass and poured myself some water like I owned the place.

“You might want to start looking into the people around you. That poison’s been building up in your system for a while. Whoever did this? They’re close. Real close.”

I turned back to him. “I’m not about to waste my blood just for you to end up poisoned again.”

“Got it,” Kade said, his eyes dark. “I won’t let your blood go to waste.”

Now that we’d struck a deal, it was time for me to go. I’d snuck off for too long, and I could already imagine Jenna tearing into me the moment I walked through the door.

I walked over to the window and waved back at Kade. “Goodnight, Mr. Howell.”

Then I slipped right out the window without a sound. Back on the first floor, I didn’t get far before running straight into Aven.

He grabbed my arm, his face dark with fury, a vein pulsing on his temple.

His wolf form was partially visible, and his fangs were already showing.

“Nira, did you think I was kidding?” he growled. “I threw you in a cell once. Don’t think I won’t do it again.”

“Hah.” I let out a cold laugh as I yanked my arm free, shooting him a look full of mockery. “How could I possibly doubt a word from you?”

“You-” He raised his clawed hand, aiming straight for me.

Before he could strike, Jenna rushed in, her voice sharp and low.

“Nira, if you want to make a scene, take it outside. This isn’t the place for your tantrums.”

She turned to Aven without missing a beat.

“I’ll deal with her. Your father’s waiting to introduce you to a few Alpha heirs. Don’t waste time here.”

“Got it.” Aven shot me a warning glare before walking off in the other direction.
