The moment I heard the full report, something dark and violent surged up from my chest, fast and uncontrollable, the kind of rage that made it hard to stay seated, let alone think rationally. For a split second, I was ready to let Odin take over completely and tear every last one of them apart with my own hands for what they had done to Nira. D
I forced myself to slow my breathing, dragging that instinct back under control before it crossed a line I couldn’t afford to lose in front of others.
“Keep digging,” I said, my voice low but carrying enough weight to make the air feel heavier. “I don’t care what it costs, I want that entire organization uncovered.”
Jett straightened immediately, his posture tightening. “Yes, Mr. Howell. I’ve already reassigned more people to the investigation. We should have something concrete soon.”
I tapped my fingers lightly against the desk, the rhythm steady as I sorted through the situation piece by piece. then shifted my focus without hesitation. “As for the Vance family,” I continued, my tone turning colder with each word, “I don’t care what their motive was. They touched someone under my protection. That alone is enough.”
Jett hesitated for a brief moment before asking carefully, “What would you like me to do next?”
A faint, humorless smile crossed my face as I flexed my hand, claws extending slightly before I curled them back into a tight fist. “Dig up everything they’ve buried over the years,” I said. “Every deal, every connection, especially anything tied to those illegal compounds. I want it all. Nothing gets left out.”
“Yes, sir,” Jett replied quickly, already preparing to move,
“Wait.”
He stopped instantly.
I didn’t raise my voice, but the cold edge in it was unmistakable. “The group involved in the attack,” I added slowly. “I don’t want a single one of them walking away.”
Jett’s shoulders stiffened, and he nodded without another word. “Understood.”
He left immediately after that.
The office fell silent the second the door closed, but the anger didn’t fade with it. Lleaned back in my chair and shut my eyes for a inoment, and that was enough for the image to come back, Nira injured, blood where it shouldn’t have been, her expression still controlled even then.
The thought alone tightened something in my chest.
They had no idea what they had just triggered.

I reached for my phone without hesitation and dialed out. “Get me every major outlet,” I said the second the call connected. “I want everything the Vance family has been hiding on the front page by morning.”
The Cruz family had also begun investigating the attack. By the time they managed to piece together even a fragment of what had happened, the situation had already spiraled beyond anything they could control.
The Vance family was dragged into a full–scale media storm overnight.
Every major headline carried the same story, exposing years of hidden dealings, harboring rogue Lycans as enforcers, involvement in illegal trade, and connections to multiple unresolved cases that had been buried for far too long.
The impact was immediate and brutal.
Their stock plummeted the moment the market opened, partners began pulling out one after another, and pressure from within their own pack territory escalated so quickly that calls for expulsion were no longer whispers but public demands.
The entire family was collapsing in real time.
Naturally, the Cruz family noticed.
Reginald had Preston brought in immediately.
He was propped up against the pillows, his face pale but his gaze sharp enough to cut through pretense. He motioned for Preston to sit, his voice rough but steady. “Who do you think is behind this?”
Preston understood exactly what he was being asked, but he didn’t agree with the implication.
“You think it was the girl who treated you?” he said, frowning slightly. “I wouldn’t jump to that. The Vance family has made plenty of enemies trying to push their way into the top ranks. This could just as easily be someone else taking advantage of the situation.”
He paused briefly, then added more bluntly, “Besides, she’s just a doctor, and she doesn’t even have a wolf. I don’t see how she could pull something like this off.”
Reginald didn’t look surprised. He simply continued, his tone slower and more deliberate. “Then explain the timing. She gets attacked, and immediately after, the Vance family falls apart. That’s not coincidence. That’s alignment.”
Preston fell silent, and the more he thought about it, the more uneasy he became. A faint chill crept up his spine, his voice tightening when he finally spoke again. “If it really is connected to her, then whoever is backing her is not someone we can afford to underestimate. She’s hiding something. There’s no way she’s as simple as she looks.”
