“Miss Soren still hasn’t woken up. Briar said her body is extremely worn out. With no wolf spirit to protect her, her state remains dangerous.”
I was filled with heavy guilt, regret and heartfelt gratitude.
Jett told me that during her disappearance, Nira headed deep into the wild woods alone to find Moonvein Bloom and make the antidote for me.
She came back covered all over with cuts and bruises. She passed out right after making sure I took the healing herb.
“If she hadn’t brought back the bloom in time, your poison would have taken your life,” Jett spoke with gratitude and worry.
I forced myself to hold steady and gave my order. “Take me to the medical ward.”
Jett looked troubled. He wanted to talk me out of it for the sake of my health, but he finally nodded reluctantly and helped me leave the meeting room.
I hurried to Nira’s ward and pushed the door open gently. She lay quietly on the hospital bed, her face deathly pale, an intravenous drip attached to her hand. My heart clenched tightly.
I walked slowly to the bedside and sat down. I carefully took her hand, cold and lifeless beneath my touch.
I thought back to our first meeting. She had no wolf spirit at all back then, yet she boldly held a weapon to threaten me. She pinned me down and bargained with me calmly.
I once thought she was just an ignorant reckless girl. I never knew this very girl would risk her life wandering the wild forest, bringing back the precious herb that saved my life.
“Nira,” I whispered her name, my voice trembling before I even noticed it.
My fingers stroked her cheek lightly. I felt her faint breath, and complicated feelings welled up inside me.
I never imagined I would care so deeply for a girl without a wolf spirit.
My wolf spirit Odin kept urging me not to grow attached to her, yet I was irresistibly drawn to her, and my feelings grew stronger each day.

I leaned closer, ready to press my face against hers, when the ward door was pushed open softly.
Briar walked in. He paused for a moment upon seeing me, bowed respectfully and spoke in a low voice.
“Her condition has stabilized, but she needs plenty of time to recover. You also just recovered from poisoning and require sufficient rest.”
I nodded, unwilling to move away from her side.
I stared intently at her face and asked quietly, “When will she wake up?”
Briar let out a soft sigh, sounding uncertain. “It is hard to say. She suffered severe physical exhaustion and painful wounds, and she has no wolf spirit to shield her. It will take quite some time for her to regain consciousness. Still, she is no longer in mortal danger.”
I said nothing more and just nodded, staying quietly beside her.
