Kade’s POV

My heart sank a little at first. But then I remembered how she had blushed and dashed off after Stealing a kiss the last time we met, and a wave of pure joy washed over me. She definitely had feelings for me. Her playing hard to get like this only made things more exciting.

I gently traced my lower lip, where the warmth of her mouth still seemed to linger. I could almost feel the faint scent of her hair brushing against my cheek as she bolted that day.

I made a silent promise right then and there: Nira, I’m not letting you run away from me again.

Nira’s POV

Ever since I impulsively kissed Kade and let my feelings slip, I hadn’t known how to face him. That was how I ended up hiding out at Tessa’s place.

“Nira? What are you doing here?” Tessa asked, looking surprised to see me.

“Didn’t you say I was welcome anytime?” I smiled, offering a quick excuse. “I decided to come stay with you for a few days.”

Tessa’s eyes lit up instantly. She grabbed my hand and yanked me inside. “That’s amazing! I’m having the kitchen make all your favorite dishes right now!”

While ordering the maids to get the guest room ready, she excitedly called her grandfather. “Grandpa! Nira is here to stay with us!”

Within ten minutes, the entire Duvall estate was buzzing.

William came out to greet me himself, leaning on his cane. “Nira, you’re finally here! That treatment plan you prescribed has made my wolf soul’s tolerance so much better!”

Tessa’s aunt, Susan, walked over carrying a tray of desserts. “Nira, try this tiramisu I just learned to make. I heard you like it…” As we were laughing and chatting, the butler hurried in to report to William. “Sik, Kade is here. He says… he’s here to visit you.”

The dining room went dead silent, and every eye in the room turned to me.

My heart hammered against my ribs as I followed their gazes toward the door.

Kade walked in, looking sharp in a tailored suit. The moment he stepped into the Duvall living room, his eyes locked onto me sitting in the corner. I hadn’t seen him in a month, and he seemed even more handsome and charming than before. The commanding presence of a soon–to–be Alpha King felt more powerful than ever.

For a moment, I could only stare at him, frozen.

Holding two neatly wrapped gift boxes, Kade politely greeted the old man. “William, I heard you’ve taken a liking to Blue Mountain coffee lately, so I brought over some from my private collection.”

William’s smile crinkled the corners of his eyes. “Alpha, you are too kind. You arrived at the perfect time. Please, sit down and join us for a fresh brew.”

rade naturally took the seat night next to me and reached for the coffee–fraking equipment. The rich aroma of coffee began to det through the air as his longlingers deftly handled the tools.

Without making a scene, he slid a freshly brewed cup in front of me. His fingertips brushed against the back of my hand, senesing a shiver straight down my spine.

“It’s hot,” he murmured, his voice laced with a low rasp meant only for me.

My fingers trembled slightly, but I forced myself to stay calm as I picked up the cup, trying to tease him. “Since when did you become such an expert on coffee, Kade?”

“When I was a kid, I always kept my grandfather company while he tasted different blends. I just picked up over time.” His burning gaze fixed on me. “And really, there are plenty of other things I’m good at.”

My hand shook, rattling the cup, and my heart skipped a dangerous beat.

William narrowed his eyes, studying the two of us, before letting out a sudden cough. “So, Alpha, what do you think of these

beans?”

Kade finally tore his gaze away from me and took a slow sip. “The aroma is incredibly rich. Top tier.”

Swirling his cup, he looked back at me with a meaningful smile. “What about you, Nira? What do you think?”

Meeting his deep, burning gaze made my heart skip a beat. I quickly grabbed onto the topic to break the tension. “The color is pristine, and there are no off–notes, but…” I took a delicate sniff. “There’s a slight bitterness on the first sip. It suggests the humidity. wasn’t controlled precisely enough during mid–term storage.”

Silence fell over the room as everyone stared at me in surprise.

William burst into a hearty laugh. “I had no idea you were such a coffee connoisseur, Nira!”

I glanced at Kade and offered a polite smile. “My adoptive father loved coffee. I spent a lot of time around him growing up, so I just picked up a thing or two.”

Kade’s eyes shifted slightly at my words. He traced the rim of his cup, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. When he looked back up, his eyes locked onto mine, heavy with a possessive intensity that sent a thrill of fear through me. That half–smile of his was charged with an unspoken tension, winding around my heart like an invisible hand until my breath hitched and my pulse raced out of control. Even Lyra was starting to stir restlessly inside my mind again, urging me to get closer to him.

“Oh, all of this is going way over my head,” Tessa said, standing up and pulling me out of my seat. “Nira, we just got a new perfume, and the scent would be absolutely perfect for you. Come upstairs and try it.”

With that, she started tugging me toward the staircase.

I glanced back, only to collide right with Kade’s amused eyes. His lips parted slightly into a perfect, subtle curve, as if sharing secret meant for just the two of us. The charged atmosphere hung heavy in the air, sending a sudden flush of heat straight to my cheeks.
