“No.”

Kade didn’t hesitate.

His brows drew together as he looked at me.

“Absolutely not. You can barely hold a glass of water right now.”

“Then I’ll use my left hand.” I met his gaze stubbornly. “I need to see them myself. I won’t be able to relax until I know they’re really okay.”

For several long seconds, neither of us spoke.

Finally, Kade let out a heavy sigh and carefully helped me sit up.

Warmth spread through my chest.

I knew exactly what that sigh meant. No matter how much he disagreed, he understood me.

And he respected me.

In the end, Kade gave in to my persistence and carefully helped me into a wheelchair.

Then he crouched beside me and helped me into a jacket, handling every movement with extraordinary care, as though I were something fragile and irreplaceable.

The moment we entered the hallway, heads turned.

As soon as we entered the hallway, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff turned to look.

Many of them immediately grew misty–eyed. Some discreetly wiped away tears, while others clasped their hands together in silent gratitude.

Without anyone saying a word, they stepped aside and opened a path for us.

I smiled back at each of them.

The first patient I visited was the retired soldier in Bed Four.

“Miss Soren…”

The older man’s voice trembled with emotion. “Look.”

He held up a clenched fist proudly.

“Your medicine worked. I’m completely recovered.”

I smiled weakly and began checking him over.

My right hand was useless, but my left fingertips could still feel the steady rhythm of his pulse.

“Your condition is much more stable now,” I said softly. “Give yourself another couple of weeks to recover, and you’ll be ready to go home.”

At every bedside, patients eagerly showed me how much progress they had made.

Some proudly demonstrated fingers that could move again.

Others took deep breaths to show their lungs had recovered.

Several raised their wolf ears excitedly.

The little girl in Bed Six even jumped out of bed and spun in a circle right in front of me.

“Miss Soren, I want to be a doctor when I grow up,” she said brightly. “A doctor as amazing as

you.”

The words hit me harder than I expected.

My eyes stung.

The trust and admiration shining in their faces was something I had only seen before from the people who had followed me in Silvermoon Pack and Ironvale Pack.

Ignoring the tremor running through my body, I insisted on examining every single patient.

Only after personally confirming that all of them were genuinely recovering did I finally relax.

The moment I returned to my room, all my remaining strength vanished.

“What about the patients?” I asked quickly. “Have any of them developed complications? Especially neurological problems-”

Before I could finish, Kade leaned down and silenced me with a gentle kiss.

The kiss was careful and tender, carrying all the relief of someone who had nearly lost the person they loved.

When he pulled back, his forehead rested against mine.

“Right now,” he said quietly, “can you stop worrying about everyone else and think about yourself for once?”

My heart skipped.

I pressed my lips together.

My voice was still weak.

“I only did what I was supposed to do.”

“No.”

Noah shook his head.

His expression became serious.

“According to our experts, if that toxin had spread further, the loss of life could have been catastrophic.”

Silence settled over the room for a moment.

Then a concern that had been lingering in the back of my mind resurfaced.

“What about Janice?” I asked. “Do we know for certain whether she still has access to more of
