Edmund gave a firm nod. “Understood. We’ll follow your lead.”

With the plan settled, I turned to actually treat Gordon.

I arranged my needles in a line, then carefully inserted each one into specific points across Gordon’s body.

Edmund’s POV:

As Nira worked with the needles, I couldn’t help stealing glances at her profile. The longer I looked, the more uneasy I felt.

Her focused expression–it was exactly like Natalie’s when she was younger.

My thoughts raced: If that child had survived, she’d be

about this age now.

But even though their resemblance was striking, this Nira clearly carried no wolf spirit. There wasn’t the faintest trace of one on

her.

I had no clue why Edmund kept watching me like that.

Ignoring his stare, I turned away and poured all my attention into gently twisting the final needle into the point below Gordon’s

Soon, Gordon’s eyelids began to flutter faintly, and his breathing grew steady and strong.

The monitors beside the bed slowly returned to normal ranges.

Those five minutes passed in heavy silence.

Edmund never stopped watching me, his expression complicated.

Desmond, meanwhile, stared anxiously at Gordon’s face, afraid to miss even the slightest change.

When time was up, I carefully removed each needle. “It’s done.”

Gordon’s eyes opened slowly, but his gaze remained hazy and unfocused.

“Dad!” Edmund rushed to his side and took his hand. “How are you feeling?

Gordon’s eyes moved slightly before closing again.

Both Edmund and Desmond went pale.

“He’s alright,” I cut in quickly. “Gordon’s still too weak. He won’t stay conscious for long right now.”

“I see…” Edmund let out a heavy sigh of relief.

“How long until he wakes up for good?” Desmond asked, clutching Gordon’s hand as he looked at me anxiously.

“Probably three more sessions,” I said, packing my needles away. “But his body will be extremely vulnerable until then. He needs round–the–clock protection–we can’t give whoever did this another opening.”

Otherwise, even if my adoptive father brought the full force of the Silvermoon Pack, it wouldn’t be enough.

“Don’t worry, Ms. Soren,” Edmund said, rising slowly. Though still pale, his sharp eyes had regained their commanding edge. “No one will lay a hand on my father again.”

He straightened his collar, and an almost palpable authority radiated from him.

“Alright then,” I said, clapping my hands softly and nodding toward him. “Let’s put on the show.”

So when the door finally opened, everyone waiting outside saw exactly what we’d planned.

Edmund and Desmond sat slumped in their chairs, looking pale and drained. I stood exhausted, my clothes damp with sweat. And Gordon, though still unconscious, now had noticeably healthier color in his face.

“Mr. Hudson!” The butler was the first to hurry inside.

“The treatment worked,” I announced clearly, making sure everyone could hear. “But Gordon will need at least three more sessions before he makes a full recovery.”

As I spoke, Kade swept a sharp gaze across the room, taking in every reaction.

And the lead doctor in his white coat–the brief panic in his eyes didn’t escape me.

Tasha rushed to Edmund’s side. “Honey, are you okay?”

Edmund shook his head gently. “I’m fine. What matters is saving Dad.”

I was focused on inserting the needles, ready to begin the careful adjustments, when urgent footsteps echoed down the hallway.

“How many?”

“Three.” Edmund moved to the bedside, glanced at Gordon, then lowered his voice. “The lead doctor’s assistant–she was caught in the act, poisoning the medication. The two maids slipped up while trying to destroy evidence.”

Just about what I’d expected.

I was about to respond when Kade appeared silently in the doorway and added, “They all carry the same mark–a viper tattoo.”

Edmund let out a cold laugh. He pulled a folded document from his inner suit pocket and handed it to me. “We found this in their quarters. It’s a record of their communications.”
