Kade kept running his fingers through my hair. “Maybe Lila lied to us,” he said softly, “or maybe… something else happened over the years that nobody knows about.”
I leaned into his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat and breathing in that farmiliar, comforting scent of his as I tried to calm myself down.

r “So soon?” Desmond blinked. “You and Mr. Howell saved my life–I haven’t even had the chance to properly thank you. And now you’re heading out?”
His expression softened as he tried to persuade me. “I can’t really explain it, but ever since I first saw you, I’ve felt this… strange

Gordon opened his mouth as if to say something else, but just then the study door swung open abruptly.
Edmund strode inside, clutching a satellite image. “Dad, we’ve got a lead on Nataliex
Gordon straightened up immediately, his voice trembling. “Where?”

“The Dark Desert.” Edmund spread the image on the table and pointed to asleep black region near the center. “Right in the middle of that dead zone.”
I caught my breath.
As the Alpha heir of the Silvermoon Pack, I’d heard the elders call that place the “werewolf graveyard” daring our lessons. Days there could scorch you, nights could freeze you–temperature swings of over 140 degrees. Deadly quicksand, unstable magnetic fields, and even wolf spirit energy didn’t work right out there.
Gordon’s thin fingers shook as they traced the image. “Are you certain?”
“Mark’s special reconnaissance team paid with their lives for this intel,” Edmund said grimly. “Natalie and Killian are being held in an underground fortress run by some group calling themselves the Dark Desert Vipers. Even mutated wolves and the witch covens avoid that place.”
Gordon slammed his hand on the table. “Contact the military–now!”
“It won’t work.” Edmund shook his head. “The magnetic field in that area is completely chaotic. Helicopters would go down, armored vehicles could sink into quicksand without warning. Mark said they sent three teams in… only one guy made it back alive.”
Staring at that eerie black patch on the satellite image, I felt my chest tighten. Even though Gordon kept insisting I wasn’t Natalie’s daughter, that strange pull wouldn’t go away.
“I’ll go myself,” Edmund said, his voice firm. “Oscar already prepped the desert tactical gear.”
Gordon broke into a harsh coughing fit. “Have you lost your mind? Even the local guides won’t set foot in there!”
“That’s exactly why I’m taking the Desert Fox unit,” Edmund explained. “The mutated wolf special ops team that extracted Mark last time.”
r I stepped back quietly, watching the father and son argue over how to rescue their family member. In the end, it was Edmund who won. “Natalie’s my only sister,” he said, voice steady. “I’m bringing her home.”
After a moment’s hesitation, I reached into my bag, putted something out, and handed it to Edmund.
