Chapter 157 A Mysterious lliness

Nira’s POV

Edmund ended the call and turned to me “Ms. Soren, gat a sec to chat in privata?

I was totally confused and frowned, but I still got up and followed him out

Edmund led me into the study and shut the door behind us, locking it.

“Ms. Soren, there’s an urgent situation,” he said in a hushed tone. “Quentin Lewis from the embassy suddenly got really sick with some super weird symptoms. Considering his important position, we can’t take him to an ordinary hospitar

I wrinkled my brow. “What kind of symptoms are we talking about?”

“He’s got a 104-degree fever that just won’t break, purple blotches all over his body, and he’s in a coma. His body is also stuck in this freaky half-wolf state,” Edmund went on. “The craziest thing is that all the tests didn’t show any cause.”

“Are you wanting me to go and treat him?” I asked straight out.

Edmund nodded seriously. “Quentin isn’t just Eastria’s top diplomat in Meridia. He’s also the main guy for the ceasefire talks on pack border disputes next month.

“If word gets out that he’s sick, it won’t just mess up the negotiations. It could cause major instability in the relationship between our two werewolf packs,” he said.

He stepped closer and dropped his voice even more. “What’s more, they’re suspecting this isn’t a normal illness…”

My heart sank. “You mean someone did this on purpose?”

“It’s just a hunch for now,” Edmund nodded.

When I walked out of the study, Kade came right over, his eyes full of questions.

I gave a little shake of my head and motioned for him to step to the side.

Once we were around the corner in the hallway, I lowered my voice and quickly filled him in on what Edmund had told me.

Kade’s frown got even deeper, his eyebrows knitting together tightly.

“This is way too dangerous!” He grabbed my hand. “If someone really poisoned him on purpose, they’re not gonna just let you go in there and save him. You could be putting yourself in big trouble.”

I gently rubbed his palm to calm him down. “But Quentin’s situation affects the ceasefire between Meridia and Eastria. If things go wrong, it could end up affecting our pack too. And as the Alpha King, you’ll get dragged into it sooner or later.”

“Besides…” I paused and my voice got firm. “As someone who knows medicine, I can’t just stand by and watch someone die.”

Kade stared at me for a long time, then finally let out a sigh. “Okay. But Edmund has to agree that I’m coming with you.”

I smiled. “I knew you’d back me up, so I already mentioned it to him, and he said it was fine.”

Kade nodded, looking satisfied.

Natalie was standing off to the side. She had no idea what was going on, but from her brother’s expression, she could tell it was serious. She looked at me like she wanted to say something, her eyes full of mixed feelings.

“Ms. Hudson,” I walked over to her on my own. “Thanks for everything you’ve done for me lately. Once this is all sorted out, we’ll have a proper goodbye”

Natalie managed a small smile. “Please be careful.”

She hesitated for a second, then reached out and straightened my collar, her movements as gentle as if I were something precious.

Half an hour later, a black sedan pulled up quietly in front of the Hudson Manor gates. The windows were specially made so you

couldn’t see inside from the outside at all.

Edmund went with Kade and me into the car.

“The embassy is on high alert right now,” Edmund explained in the car. “Quentin’s condition is being kept super secret. Only a few people know the real deal.”

The car took a few detours before pulling in through the embassy’s back entrance.

Lyra seemed to sense something and was on full-alert inside me.

I also noticed that there were at least three times as many security guards along the way as usual, and every single one of them looked really on edge.
