I sat down beside Natalie. “Yes, but I’m still figuring things out.” I kept my voice gentle, hoping to soothe her. “Just give it a few more days. Whatever you decide then, I’ll stand by you.”
Natalie turned to look at me, and suddenly her eyes welled up. Tears spilled down her cheeks before she could stop them.
She took my hand, her voice trembling. “I wish so much you were our daughter…”
Watching her break down like that made my own chest tighten. I wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into a careful hug, patting her back in slow, steady circles. “It’s going to be okay,” I said, making sure she heard the certainty in my tone. “I’ll find a way to help you.”
That seemed to open the floodgates. Natalie cried harder, her tears soaking through the fabric of my blouse. Her fingers clutched at the hem, holding on as if it were the only thing keeping her grounded.
After a long while, she finally pulled back, sniffling and wiping hastily at her face. Her makeup was smudged, leaving dark streaks under her eyes. “I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean to fall apart like that. You shouldn’t have to see me this way.”
I handed her a tissue and offered a soft smile. “Don’t worry about it. I won’t send you the dry cleaning bill.”
Natalie took the tissue and let out a wet, shaky laugh. She patted the back o of my hand lightly. “Thank you, Nira. I… I actually feel a

“Please,” she cut in gently, her eyes earnest.
“Call
me Natalie. ‘Ms. Hudson‘ feels too distant.”
“Natalie,” I corrected myself.
“That’s better.” Her response was warm, almost relieved.
“Anyway, don’t sign anything yet. Try to buy a few more days.” I told her, holding her gaze. “And be careful around Dina. Avoid being alone with her if you can.”
Natalie caught on immediately. Her expression shifted from sadness to alertness. “Is there something going on with Dina?”
I gave a slow, serious nod. “If what we suspect is true, then she’s dangerous. Really dangerous.”
Natalie swallowed, then nodded back. “Okay. I’ll be careful.”

Edmund listened, but skepticism was written all over his face. “I’ve heard of the mixed–blood Lycans from the Frostveil Pack, but… mind control? That sounds like something out of an old pack legend.”
He was more inclined to believe the simpler explanation: that Killian had just fallen for someone else and cheated.
Kade kept his voice low but firm. “Mr. Hudson, Hknow it’s hard to believe. But for Natalie’s safety, I think it’s worth looking into. If this really is tied to the Frostveil/remnants, then she could be in real danger.”
Edmund frowned, quiet for a long moment. Then he gave a slow, reluctant nod. “You’re right. She’s my only sister. I can’t take any chances with her safety.”
He stood and walked to the window, staring out before turning back. “So what’s the plan?”
“Nira’s foster father is already on his way. Until he gets here, we need your help,” Kade said. “First, assign your highest–ranked pack guards to watch Natalie–round–the–clock protection. Second, use the mate–bond dissolution agreement to stall Dina. Drag it out as long as you can.”
“Consider it done,” Edmund replied without hesitation.
On the other end of town, Dina still hadn’t received the signed agreement.
She paced her hotel room, agitation growing with every pass. Finally, she snatched her phone and called Natalie.
“Natalie, you promised you’d sign. Where is it?”
Over the line, Natalie’s tone was calm, almost detached. “I did say that, didn’t I? But I’ve changed my mind.”
“You’re playing games with me!” Dina snarled. Her wolf claws extended without thought, and she slammed her fist down, shattering the glass on the desk in front of her.
