Lyra reacted before I could, her presence rising inside me, sharp and defensive, like she was bracing for a fight the second my anger surfaced.

I didn’t move. I stayed where I was, expression steady, listening as Jenna spiraled completely out of control.

“Get out,” she snapped, her voice shaking with fury. “Get out of the Soren estate. You are not welcome here.”

Her claws slid out as she came at me, clearly trying to intimidate me into backing down.

I had already begun gathering Lyra’s strength, ready to push back if she touched me, when Damon stepped in and stopped her cold.

I lowered my gaze to where she was gripping me, my skin already reddening under the pressure, then looked back up at her, my voice calm, almost indifferent.

“And if he says no?”

Jenna didn’t hesitate, not even for a second.

“Then you don’t leave until he changes his mind,” she shot back. “You beg if you have to. Stay there as long as it takes. Whatever he wants, you give it to him. And if that still doesn’t work, we take it public and force him to step in.”

“Enough,” Damon cut in sharply, his patience clearly wearing thin. He shot Jenna a warning look before turning back to me.

“We’re tied to the Howell family,” he said, as if that alone settled everything. “If you go to him yourself, he won’t refuse.”

The way he looked at me felt like he was sizing up merchandise, weighing whether the deal was worth it. I let out a quiet, self- mocking laugh. I already knew this family cared about nothing but profit, yet I still asked a question that meant nothing.

I shifted slightly and said flatly, “You’re hurting me.”

Jenna hesitated for a brief moment before letting go, though her expression remained sharp and impatient.

“Why are you being so difficult?” she snapped. “This isn’t about you. Nolan is sitting in custody right now, and you’re seriously going to act like this doesn’t concern you?”

I lifted my head and let my gaze pass over every single one of them, my voice calm but edged with something cold enough to cut.

“So this is what it comes down to,” I said. “You’re all perfectly fine sacrificing me if it means saving Nolan.”

Silence hung in the air for a beat.

Then added, just as evenly, “And you expect me to agree to that?”
