Chapter 46 No Illusions

Nira’s POV:

Kade nodded calmly, but didn’t give me the answer I wanted. “You’ll find out when the results are released.”

I let out a soft scoff at his evasiveness, but didn’t press further.

After getting out of the car, I stretched, the cool night air helping clear my head.

“I’m heading in. Thanks.”

I waved at him without turning back and walked straight into the Soren estate.

The house felt unusually quiet. Only a few staff members were around, and none of the Soren family were present.

I paused for a moment and took in the air.

Jenna didn’t return until early the next morning. The moment she learned I had come back the night before, she flew into a rage and ordered the staff to bang on my door.

Damon cut in impatiently, “Forget that. Did it work or not?”

“How would I know? I was unconscious!” Jenna snapped. “But that useless girl without a wolf did go into Kade’s room.”

Damon’s eyes lit up immediately.

A drugged man and a young woman alone in a room, he didn’t believe for a second that nothing had happened.

If there was even the slightest connection between them now, Kade wouldn’t be able to stay out of it.

Reese led a group upstairs to force the door open, but before they could act, the door swung open.

I stepped out on my own.

I swept my gaze over them. Even without a wolf, the pressure I gave off made them freeze in place.

I glanced at the servants who had gone still with fear, then walked past them and headed downstairs.

In the living room, I faced Damon and Jenna directly.

“You’re making this much noise first thing in the morning,” I said coldly. “What do you want?”

“You ungrateful-” Jenna started, baring her teeth as she moved to lash out.

Damon stopped her before she could finish.

He looked me over, his expression calculating. “Answer me this. Did you sleep with Kade last night? Don’t worry, I’m not blaming you. You were going to become mates anyway.”

A wave of disgust rose in my chest. Even listening to him felt unbearable.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said coldly.

Then I glanced at Jenna. “I went to the restroom last night. When I came back, you were gone, so I left on my own.”

“That’s a lie!” Jenna snapped immediately, completely abandoning any composure. “I personally sent you into Kade’s room. You stayed in there that long, and you expect anyone to believe nothing happened?”

For a moment, I just looked at them, the revulsion building in my chest.

This family was completely rotten.

I forced down the surge of anger, suppressing the urge to let Lyra take over and tear them apart.

“So what?” I said with a cold laugh. “Do you want me to go public for you? Make sure everyone sees exactly how disgusting the Soren family really is?”

“Nira!” Damon pointed at me, his voice turning harsh. “Don’t forget, you’re one of us. If the Soren family falls, a useless girl like you without a wolf won’t come out of it unscathed.”
