Lyra’s anger surged violently inside me, her rage echoing through my chest. I tightened my fists, forcing myself to stay still as suppressed the emotion threatening to spill over.
Eli let out a cold, dismissive laugh. “Nira, I don’t even consider you family anymore. If you had just gone to Kade, Nolan wouldn’t be stuck in a place like that. This is all because of you.”
Aven didn’t say a word, but the look in his eyes carried the same accusation.
Damon set his glass down slowly, the pressure of his alpha presence settling heavily in the room as his gaze locked onto me.
“Since you’re back, go to your room and think about what you’ve done,” he said, his voice cold and controlled. “From now on, you don’t leave this house without my permission.”
I held his gaze for a brief moment, then turned and walked upstairs without another word.
They would come to me when they had no other choice.
After driving Nira upstairs, Jenna grabbed her keys and was about to head out to the psychiatric facility when the front door burst open and Janice came running in, crying.
“Janice?” Jenna frowned, startled. “Aren’t you supposed to be at school? Why are you back already?”
Janice broke down the second she reached her, throwing herself into Jenna’s arms as the words came pouring out between sobs.
“Everyone’s talking about Nolan. Everywhere I go, people are whispering and laughing at me. I can’t even walk down the hallway without feeling like I’m being judged.”
She clutched onto Jenna tighter, her voice shaking.
“I couldn’t take it anymore, so I just left.”
Then she looked up, eyes red and wet. “Mom, when is Nolan getting out? I can’t stay at school like this. No matter what I do, people keep talking behind my back.”
In reality, plenty of people at school knew how to separate her from what Nolan had done, but Janice had already worked herself into a state where every glance and every whisper felt like it was about her.
Jenna sighed, clearly exhausted. “Nolan’s situation isn’t something I can explain in a few words. Just focus on your classes and stop worrying about what other people are saying.”
Janice muttered under her breath, just loud enough to be heard, “He should’ve been more careful. Now I’m the one dealing with all of this.”
If she had known it would turn out like this, she never would have let Nolan walk her into school on the first day and make their relationship so obvious.
Jenna was too preoccupied with Nolan to catch the edge in her tone. Instead, she said, “You came back at a good time. I was just

about to go see Nolan. Come with me.”

Janice’s expression stiffened for the briefest moment, but she quickly covered it with a bright smile. “Sure, I’ll go with you.”
Jenna nodded, relieved, and headed toward the car. “Nolan’s always been closest to you. Seeing you will probably make him feel better.”
“Yeah,” Janice replied, forcing a small smile, though her gaze had already started drifting.
By the time they reached the front, Jenna had already gotten into the driver’s seat and opened the car door from inside.
Janice walked over slowly, placing a hand on the door, and just as she was about to get in, her foot slipped.
“Ah!”
She let out a sharp cry as her body tilted sideways, losing balance before dropping hard onto the ground.
Jenna immediately got out of the car and rushed over. “Janice, what happened? Are
you hurt?”
Janige winced, her face twisting in pain. “My ankle… I think I twisted it.”
She drew in a shaky breath, explaining quickly, “My wolf’s been in a dormant phase lately, so my reflexes are basically like a human’s right now. And with everything going on with Nolan, I’ve been distracted… I wasn’t paying attention.”
Jenna crouched down to check her ankle, her expression growing more serious the longer she looked. “This doesn’t look good. You should stay home and rest. I’ll go see Nolan myself.”
“No, I want to go with you,” Janice insisted, trying to push herself up.
The moment she put weight on it, she sucked in a sharp breath, her legs giving out as she dropped back down.
“That’s enough,” Jenna said firmly. “Stop pushing it. You’re staying home.”
Janice hesitated, then nodded reluctantly. “…Okay.”
She was helped up by two maids, leaning heavily against them as Jenna drove off.
The second the car disappeared beyond the gates, the tears on Janice’s face vanished.
Her expression turned cold as she pointed at the thinnest Omega maid. “You. Carry me upstairs.”
The maid froze for a second, clearly uncomfortable, before biting her lip and crouching down.
Janice shifted her full weight onto her without hesitation, her tone sharp and impatient. “Watch it. If you drop me, I’ll make sure my father throws you out of the pack. Do you understand?”
The maid trembled slightly, tightening her grip as she carefully lifted her, moving step by step with visible strain.
Nira’s POV:
I stood by the window the entire time, watching everything unfold below. Naturally, I didn’t miss a single detail of Janice’s little performance.

She really knew how to put on a show. It was a shame she hadn’t gone into acting.
I kept watching.
Before long, she was perfectly fine, moving around the house and even practicing dance like nothing had happened.
Then, not even a few minutes later, Jenna came back unexpectedly. Janice froze.
Panic flashed across her face. She misstepped. This time, there was no act.
She fell hard.
The moment I saw her expression twist in genuine pain, I knew.
That one was real. A cold smile tugged at my lips. Serves her right.

“Mom, why are you back so soon?” Janice asked, forcing a smile as she tried to steady herself, the guilt barely hidden beneath the surface.
Jenna had clearly seen her dancing. Her eyes dropped to Janice’s ankle, confusion written all over her face. “Didn’t you just say you were injured?”
Janice lowered her gaze as a maid helped her up. “I did twist it. But there’s a school dance next week, and I was thinking… if I place well, it might help repair the Soren family’s reputation a little.”
“That’s a good mindset,” Damon said as he walked in.
Then his eyes shifted toward me, his expression turning cold and pointed. “At least some people know how to think about the family. Unlike certain others.”
Janice immediately smiled, clearly pleased, and shot me a smug, provocative glance.
I didn’t bother reacting. I simply walked past them and into the kitchen to pour myself a glass of water.
When I came back, Damon had just taken a glass from a maid and was asking, “Didn’t you go see Nolan? How is he?”
“Don’t even ask,” Jenna replied, her expression darkening. “I didn’t get to see him at all.”
“When I went in as the Luna of Blazeborn Pack, the director came out personally to receive me, very polite, very respectful. But the moment I asked to see Nolan, he kept dodging the request with excuses.”
I blinked slowly, lowering my gaze just enough to hide the faint curve of my lips.
As long as I didn’t allow it, they wouldn’t be seeing him again, not ever.
Damon set his glass down, his expression growing serious. “It’s a sensitive time. If the director refused, he must have his reasons.”
Jenna opened her mouth as if she wanted to argue, but before she could say anything, Reese hurried in, clearly flustered.
He stopped in front of Damon, slightly out of breath.
“Alpha, Mr. Reed is here.”
