By the time we arrived at Howard Academy, Alden had already decided everything. He brought me straight to Graham’s office without even stopping along the way, and within minutes, someone from admissions was called over to process my enrollment in person.
“Go ahead and get Nira registered,” Alden said, unable to hide the excitement in his voice, his face flushed like he’d just discovered something priceless.
The admissions officer gave me a long, skeptical look, their gaze lingering as if trying to figure me out. “She really got a perfect score? I’m not picking up any trace of a wolf presence from her at all…”
Before I could respond, Graham calmly stepped in and took over the conversation.
“Nira lost her wolf spirit due to an accident later in life. Before that, it was exceptionally strong,” he explained evenly. “There’s nothing surprising about her having already mastered the full high school curriculum.”
He paused, then added with quiet certainty, “And as you know, my ability allows me to gauge a person’s cognitive potential. The moment I met Nira, I had no doubt she’s a genius. With her no longer suited for combat, focusing on research is actually the best path forward.”
The admissions officer’s attitude shifted instantly. “Right, of course. That makes sense.”
They had just begun preparing the paperwork when the office door burst open with a loud bang.
A professor in a vintage–style shirt rushed in, a roll of blueprints clutched tightly in his hand. His eyes swept across the room in a flash before landing squarely on me, lighting up with unmistakable excitement.
“That’s Nira, right?”
He crossed the room in just a few quick strides, barely containing himself. His silver wolf ears even lifted slightly with his enthusiasm.
For a brief second, I found myself distracted. Silver… just like Lyra.
Graham frowned when he recognized him. “Rowan, what exactly are you doing? Since when do you barge into my office like this?”

Rowan Kim didn’t bother responding to that. His focus stayed entirely on me.
“Graham, Nira scored full marks in both math and physics. A student like that belongs in the physics department
Alden immediately stepped forward, placing himself between them like a barrier. “That’s not happening. I personally brought Nira back from the Soren estate. She’s joining computer science, and I’ll be mentoring her myself”
Rowan didn’t give an inch. “That’s not your decision alone. Her exam clearly shows exceptional logical structure and a deep understanding of physical principles. Her aptitude for physics is obvious. Sending her to computer science would be wasting her potential.”
Alden’s expression darkened. “And ignoring her programming ability wouldn’t be?”
The tension escalated quickly, neither of them willing to step back.
“Nira should be in physics.”
“She’s going into computer science.”
Standing there between them, I couldn’t help but feel a little helpless. I hadn’t even officially enrolled yet, and somehow. I’d already become the center of a full–blown tug–of–war.
Graham cleared his throat, his voice cutting cleanly through the argument. “That’s enough. Nira’s talent speaks for itself. The choice should be hers.”
He turned to me with a calm, encouraging smile. “Nira, which field are you actually interested in?”
I glanced from Alden to Rowan, and just like that, both of them dropped their intensity. replacing it with warm, expectant smiles as they waited for my answer.
“I…”
Before I could finish, the door slammed open again.
“Hold on!”
Another older professor appeared in the doorway, slightly out of breath as if he’d rushed all the way here.
The moment Alden and Rowan saw him, both of them reacted instantly, stepping forward to block his path.
