Nira’s POV:
After I asked that question, I kept my eyes on Jett, watching his face carefully, looking for the slightest crack in his composure.
He stayed calm, one hand on the wheel as he spoke. “Miss Soren, I was in the area handling something. I happened to see you leaving campus in a hurry.”
I gave a small nod and didn’t push it any further.
By the time I got back to the auditorium, Janice had just finished her piano performance. She stood center stage, soaking in a wave of applause that rolled through the room.
She smiled gracefully and dipped into a polished bow, playing the part perfectly. Anyone looking at her right then would’ve thought she was royalty, like she belonged at the very top of the food chain.
I stood in the crowd, watching her with a faint, cold smile before turning toward the backstage area.
I wash’t leaving this unfinished.
Janice’s POV:
The moment I stepped off that stage, I could still feel it, the attention, the admiration, the envy. Every look in that audience had
been on me.
There weren’t many daughters of alphas across the entire alliance who could outshine me.
And Nira?
She wasn’t even worth comparing. She didn’t even have a wolf soul.
I hummed to myself as I headed backstage, still riding that high.
Then I walked in and saw her.
Nira was standing there, her expression cold, her eyes locked onto me with a sharp intensity that made something in my chest tighten. It didn’t make sense, she had no wolf soul, but the pressure coming off her felt real.
Too real.
How did she get back so fast? Did something go wrong on Rhett’s end?
A flicker of panic hit me, but I forced it down and kept my smile in place.
“Nira,” I said lightly, testing the waters, “are you here to congratulate me, or…”
The slap came out of nowhere. My head snapped to the side, the sound echoing through the room.
For a second, I couldn’t even process what had just happened.

She hit me? Around us, people froze, all eyes turning toward us at once.
My cheek burned, the sting sharp and spreading fast.
That wasn’t normal.
Even with my wolf energy instinctively kicking in to brace the impact, I had nearly lost my balance.
I lifted my hand, claws starting to form as I moved to strike back.
Another slap.
Harder this time.
The force sent me stumbling back several steps, my vision blurring as I barely managed to stay upright.
Shock twisted into something colder.
She had just hit me. In public.
“What… what was that for?” I pressed a hand to my face, my voice shaking despite myself.
This wasn’t right. She wasn’t supposed to be like this.

Nira looked at me like I was nothing, her voice low and cutting. “You really think everyone else is as stupid as you are? You thought you could pull that off and no one would notice?”
A couple of people tried to step in, but one look from her was enough to stop them in their tracks.
She stepped closer, goy

pack.
I stood there, frozen, staring after her like my body had forgotten how to move.
The way people were looking at me now, it wasn’t admiration anymore. It was something else. Something humiliating.
I pressed my hand harder against my face, my eyes stinging, anger and shame mixing together.
But underneath all of it, there was something worse.
Relief.
For a second back there, I had honestly thought she might kill me.
That didn’t make sense.
My wolf soul had actually reacted to her. Not just reacted… it had hesitated.
If I hadn’t checked, if I hadn’t been certain she didn’t have one, I would’ve thought that wasn’t even her

What was she hiding?
My thoughts were a mess as I fixed my clothes and pushed through the crowd, keeping my head down as I left and headed back to my place.
The moment I walked in, Elise rushed over.
“Rhett’s lost it!” she blurted out.
I paused for a second, then brushed it off.
Right now, Rhett didn’t matter.
Compared to what I had just felt from Nira, he was completely irrelevant.
“Forget him,” I said, my tone sharp.
Elise nodded quickly and shifted gears, her cheeks turning red almost immediately. “Janice… your brother, Aven… is he okay? I mean, I haven’t seen him come by lately…”
I didn’t need her to say more. It was obvious. And honestly, I didn’t mind.
I let out a heavy sigh, just enough to sound convincing. “He’s been overwhelmed. Something came up at home, and there’s a lot he
has to handle with my dad.”
Elise’s expression tightened with worry. “Is it serious? What happened?”
