Chapter 88 Back in the Saddle
Chapter 88 Back in the Saddle
Nira’s POV:
Tessa hooked her arm through mine. “If you don’t know how, it’s fine. I’ll teach you.”
“Sure,” I said, smiling.
It had been a while since I’d ridden.
Back at Silvermoon Pack, I had a horse named Pitt. I used to ride him all the time.

Ivory shifted slightly in my sleeve, like it picked up on the memory. I reached in and gently smoothed it down before looking back at Tessa.
“Deal,” she said. “Tomorrow, don’t bail on me.”
After we parted ways, I went back to my place near campus. The second I opened my laptop, a flood of messages popped up.
All from X9.
I clicked into the files, and sure enough, it was another batch of assignments. Long, complicated, and spread across multiple fields.
Typical.
He never made anything easy.
I leaned back for a second, then let out a quiet breath.
Annoying as it was, I couldn’t deny it. This was exactly the kind of challenge I liked.
So I got to work.
By the time I finished everything, it was already past midnight.
I stretched, sent everything back to X9, and left a quick message saying I’d be out riding the next day and would check in later.
The next day, when Tessa came to get me, I gave her a quick tour of the house.
She looked around with obvious envy. “I swear, I want to move out so bad, but my family won’t let me.”
I laughed. “That’s not a big deal. Just come stay here whenever you want.”
She threw her arms around me. “Nira, I love you.”
“Come on,” she said, grabbing my hand. “We’re heading to the stables. Today’s gonna be fun.”
We got into Clement’s car and headed out.
The ranch was wide open, sunlight stretching across the grass while horses moved lazily in the distance.
After getting changed, Tessa dragged me straight toward the stables.

“Okay, this one’s mine,” she said, pointing at a sleek chestnut horse. “Redwind. It’s fast.”
Then she scanned the row and pointed again. “You should start with something calmer. That one’s perfect.”
I walked over and ran my hand along the white horse’s mane. It leaned into my touch, calm and trusting.
For a second, it reminded me of Pitt.
“Yeah,” I said quietly. “I like this one.”
Clement came over to check the tack, adjusting the saddle and reins before giving us a quick rundown.
Tessa was already mounting, smooth and confident.
She turned back with a grin. “Come on, Nira. Let’s go.”
Since they assumed I couldn’t ride, Clement had arranged for an instructor.

The instructor stepped in, about to give me a hand mounting, but I just smiled. I slipped my left foot into the stirrup, gripped the saddle, and pushed up, swinging myself onto the horse in one smooth motion.
Tessa’s eyes went wide. “Wait, Nira, you can ride?”
She looked me up and down, clearly impressed. “That mount was cleaner than mine.”
I blinked at her, playing it off with a grin. “I just copied you. You made it look easy, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Didn’t think it’d actually work.”
There was no way I could admit the truth.
Before coming back to the Soren estate in Blazeborn Pack, I was supposed to be nothing more than a stray. No background, no training, no opportunities like this.
Someone like that wouldn’t know how to ride.
If I wanted to keep my identity as Silvermoon Pack’s Alpha heir buried, this was the only story that worked.
Tessa studied me, still not fully convinced. “You’re seriously telling me that was your first time?”
“Yeah,” I said, nodding like I meant it.
She held my gaze for a second longer, then finally shrugged, a confident smile creeping back. “Alright, fine. Guess I’m just that good of a teacher.”
With that, she kicked her horse forward and took off across the field, completely in her element.
The instructor led my horse along behind her, going over basic riding rules and safety tips, but my attention wasn’t really on him.
I was watching Tessa.
She was flying across the open field, completely carefree, like nothing in the world could hold her back.
It pulled me somewhere else for a second.

Back to Silvermoon Pack
Back to the days I used to ride beside my adoptive father, with Pitt under me and nothing to worry about.
A small smile slipped onto my face before I even realized it.
A moment later, Tessa came charging back, pulling her horse to a stop right beside me. “Did you see that?” she said, practically glowing. “That lap was sick, right?”
I nodded without hesitation. “Yeah, that was seriously impressive. I couldn’t look away.”
She laughed, clearly pleased. “So, how’re you doing?”
“Not bad,” I said, guiding my horse forward at an easy pace.
Tessa circled around me once, giving me an approving look. “You’re doing great for a beginner. Keep practicing and you’ll be running laps with me in no time.”
“Sounds like a plan.” I nodded.
“Oh, hold on, I’ve got something better.” Her eyes lit up again.
She leaned forward and pressed her legs in, and her horse took off instantly.
She moved with it effortlessly, perfectly in sync, then cut a sharp, clean turn across the center of the field, flicking her riding crop with a kind of casual confidence that turned heads.
A few riders nearby slowed down, watching her with clear admiration.
I couldn’t help but smile as I watched.
Then suddenly, a sharp, piercing neigh ripped through the air.
“Move! Get out of the way!”
