It was crystal clear that Logan was unaware of Raelynn’s relationship with a mafia man. A part of me felt bad for him because his feelings were toyed by the woman he loved unconditionally.

“Tessa, is there anything that I should have known a long time ago?” He narrowed his eyes.

I shook my head.

“It’s very late and I don’t think this is the right place to discuss something very important.” I said.

Reluctance was visible in his eyes but he nodded his head in agreement.

“Okay, let’s meet tomorrow after your work. I will pick you up and then you can decide the place since I am new here.” He said.

“It’s fine, don’t trouble yourself. We can talk in the café near my workplace. Please, come there at four in the evening. Usually, I am free by then if we don’t have orders in bulk.”

“You’re an independent businesswoman now and seeing you working and managing on your own without looking up to someone for help. I am proud of you.” He said with a smile.

“I should go back inside. Lena wakes up at midnight if I don’t pat her to deep sleep.” I told him about one of our daughter’s habits.

“I wish one day I will be the one to take over this duty for our daughter.”

I didn’t give him a response yet because I wanted myself to trust him completely. The insecurity I always felt whenever he was around other women, it had to go first.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said.

“I will believe whatever you have to say to me, Tessa.” With these words, he hopped inside his car and drove away.

I stood there until his car disappeared from my sight.

I wanted to tell him everything but I held myself back because I wanted him to be mentally prepared for something that was one of the reasons I left him and my past life.

Riccardo Manchini could kill us if his beloved had asked him and I didn’t trust my psychopath cousin.

Sighing and feeling a sudden voidness, I went inside the house only to find my son sitting on the sofa playing video game. His focus was solely on the TV screen.

“Lucas, it’s past your play time. Go brush your teeth and sleep.” I reminded him.

“Just five minutes more, Mom. I am almost winning the game.” He said without looking at me.

I sighed and shook my head. Sometimes, I forgot that he wasn’t my small boy and I shouldn’t be reminding him things. He was a disciplined boy.

After a minute, he switched off the TV and stood up.

“How was your talk with Logan?” I asked while fidgeting with my fingers.

His eyes met mine and he shook his head.

“It was okay. We talked. He was guilty and promised that he’ll work on himself.” He replied in a low tone. He was still not telling me something but I’d not push him because it was between him and his father.

“Good. I am glad to hear that you agreed to give him a chance, Luke.” I said with a smile.

“Mom, he’s a great Dad to me but I don’t think he was good to you so I told him that whatever you’ll decide, I am with you.” He said and my eyes snapped at him.

I was stunned to see the depth of his unconditional love for me.

“Lucas, you don’t need to do this. I know you love him so much and you miss him. My relation with Logan is different from yours. He’s your father who loves you more than anything in this world. He’ll never do something to hurt you.”

“And he can hurt you?” His question left me short of words again.

“Let’s not talk about it tonight, Mom. Please, go to your room and rest. You look exhausted.” He said to end the grim conversation between us.

“Luke, come here.” I opened my arms for my son and he hugged me without delay.

“Mom loves you so much, you know this.” I said kissing his head.

“Yes, I know but I want you to love yourself more, Mom.” He broke the hug and looked up at me.

Who would say that he was only nine

years

old.

He talked like a mature person and I was really proud of him. He had inherited the qualities I always wished to see in my children.

I’d never regret to replace his birth mother. I knew what a horrible person like Raelynn would teach to him. “My own happiness isn’t greater than yours and your sister’s. Tomorrow I am meeting him again.” I told him. He didn’t say anything but nodded his head again.

Once we retired to our rooms, I rested my head on the pillow and opened my phone to search about Raelynn and his parents. It had been four years since I completely erased their existence from my life.

The news articles I read about them, it left me shocked. Logan brought justice to Lena’s kidnappers but I knew my uncle wasn’t the real culprit even though he confessed. There were other serious charges against him. The

company was in his relative’s hands and he was managing it with transparency.

It was Raelynn all along.
