“Shhh, please, keep your voice down. I haven’t told Logan about it.” I eyed her.
“Tess, I received the documents. Thank you for considering my offer. You deserve this chance and I know you’ll bring success to me.” Adrian spoke.
“Don’t lay it on thick, Adrian. I am still a fresher af
a long break.” I again blushed.
Adrian encouraged me while my own husband never really cared if I had given up my job or I wanted to
restart.
“Excuse me, Mr. Mcnight, but can I steal my wife for a moment?”
Logan’s deep voice and his warm hand around my wrist made me jump in surprise.
I tilted my head and found him staring down at me.
“So, you’re the husband of my friend who cut all contact with us after her marriage?” Ruby, the sharp tongued woman asked Logan with a raised brow.
“Yes, I am her husband, Ms. Mcnight. May I have a private moment with my wife? Please, excuse us.” Logan responded in the same curt tone and gently dragged me away from them to a secluded corner.
For others, it might look like he was a romantic husband who wanted to have a private moment with his wife among many people but only I knew the hollowness beneath the fake mask of our marriage.
“Logan, what was that?” I asked him in an annoyed tone.
“Didn’t I tell you to keep your distance from that man?” He asked me in a displeased tone.
“I was chatting with his sister who was my college friend. You shouldn’t have a problem with that.” I replied under gritted teeth.
“I do have a problem because you can’t escape the eyes of preying spectators. They can see how longingly your friend is looking at you.” He said, especially emphasizing on the word ‘friend‘ and I knew he was referring to Adrian.
