The ride back home was filled with heavy awkwardness. We didn’t stay for long at the party because Lucas was tired and he had school next day. Lucas was sitting between us so it gave me some space to breathe normally.
Logan’s intense stares whenever Adrian tried to talk to me, even he was only being friendly, I couldn’t miss how Logan’s gaze used to get dark.
When we reached home, Logan silently carried a sleeping Lucas while I walked ahead of them. The heels were killing me so I wanted to get rid of them badly and I was completely exhausted, both mentally and physically.
“Why didn’t you tell me that you wanted to work?”
Logan’s unexpected question froze me on my spot.
Did he overhear my conversation with Mcnight siblings?
I slowly turned around and found him standing at a meter’s distance from me.
“I do not understand in what context you asked me this question?” I partially pretended to not understand his question.
“Mrs. Xi told me how you wanted to work but chose the opposite. You know I never stopped you from pursuing your career. It was entirely your decision to devote yourself in this marriage.” He spoke. Disappointment reflected in his tone.
I’d not lie, his words, even though they were true, still stabbed my heart.
“Well, I never blamed you for my own decisions then why all of a sudden you bring up this topic?” I asked masking my vulnerable emotional turmoil in that moment.
“Because I feel like a pathetic man who had jailed his wife for his own selfish motives when it’s not true. Mrs. Xi praised your talent, she made me see how bright you are and yet sitting at home.” He said.
I didn’t understand why he was getting worked up.
“Please, forgive me if you had to feel in that way, Logan. I have nothing to say. I can still start afresh soon.” I said with a smile which automatically crept on my lips but something flickered in his eyes.
“So, you’re waiting for our divorce so you can finally be free and live your life the way you want?” He asked.
I was confused, why was he acting so strange?
“Well, you’re proposed a divorce first. I have to plan my future sooner or later. I have lived on your money for three years but my life will be different once I’ll be Tessa Vance again. I have to stand up on my own.”

I stated the fact.
“Don’t say stupid things.” He glared me, “Why do you always belittle yourself? As my wife, you have all the rights to use my assets and after our divorce, it’ll still my duty to take care of your allowances.” He
said in a softer tone.
“I don’t want anything from you, Logan. Again, I clearing this, I’ll not take a single penny from your family.” I said.
“Why are we doing this, Tessa? Why do you act stubborn all the time?” He threw his hands in the air.
“I am not acting stubborn but with dignity. I don’t want your family or mine to rub it on my face forever. Marrying you and become a mother to Lucas was my choice but leeching on your wealth isn’t something I’d never do.” I replied.
There was a moment of silence between us.
“What have you planned for your future?” He asked me, there was a trace of hesitation in his words.
I lifted up my eyes and found him staring at me.
As much as I was overwhelmed to know that he was concerned about my future, I couldn’t tell him about my plans. I didn’t want him to misinterpret my equation with Adrian.
“No, I haven’t planned anything yet but I wish to spend a couple of weeks or a month with my aunt in Texas.” I told him a fragment of my plan which was true.
There was again nothing to share. We never really talked openly like normal couples but we were still friendly, shared a bed and gave in to our desires with mutual consent so this invisible wall was both painful and suffocating for me.
