Logan’s words kept replaying in my mind till late in the night. Although, he didn’t learn about my plans of working for Adrian but the look of self–disappoint and guilt bothered me.
He must not know about my decision because I wanted less complexity in the remaining days of my
married life.
Unable to lay on the bed anymore, I slipped out of the bed. It was early dawn. The house was quiet so I silently padded my way to the kitchen to make myself a strong coffee to ease the headache.
I waited for the machine to beep while dwelling in the same thought process that I didn’t sense another presence in the kitchen.
“Can I also have some?”
Logan’s deep, morning voice broke my trance.
I flinched as I was deeply engrossed in my thoughts.
Turning around, I found him leaning his weight on the kitchen isle. His eyes were puffy and his messy hairs were indicating that he had a light sleep as well but I chose not to ask him and complicate our equation further.
“Here’s your coffee.” I said putting the brewing beverage in front of him.
“Thank you. I badly needed it.” He replied but what made my heart stir was a small, almost invisible smile
in the corner of his lips.
“It wasn’t much of a problem.” I responded and proceeded to leave with my own coffee.
I walked into the garden to feel the morning air as it’s not often when I wake up very early and enjoy the sunrise. The chirping of birds and faint smell of flowers soothed my aching brain cells. I quietly enjoyed
the bitter beverage.
“The garden needs weeding and there should be more plants in that corner.” Logan walked in there and his behaviour really confused me.
Normally, we never sit down to drink coffee in the morning.
“I left the space because I and Lucas wanted to plant some peach saplings there but you can convert the corner in flower bed if you want. There’s no use of plating fruits there because Lucas might not stay here anymore.” I replied.
It was difficult to talk about a future in which I’d be absent.
“I’ll talk to the gardener and ask him about the perfect timing for planting peaches and some oranges as
well.” He said.

Again, I chose not to speak further.
“I didn’t get time to meet or talk to Raelynn in last two days but today, I am going to meet her and have a serious discussion about publicizing our relationship status. What happened between Lucas and Jason, it can’t be ignored.” He spoke, his tone was serious.
I tilted my head to stare at him. Did he really say that he’d stop his beloved Raelynn from flaunting their relationship?
“Well, that’s totally up to you. I can’t say anything about it because then my cousin will blame me that I filled your ears.” I said the truth.
“You don’t have to be sarcastic all the time. You’re not a cold person but since I asked for a divorce, your whole demeanour has changed. Can we be not civil with each other?”
His words were laced in frustration and impatience.
“How do you expect me to behave when I know there’s a third person always between us and the person will soon replace me? Don’t forget that I begged you to give me two weeks so I can enjoy a few days with my son. You wanted the divorce on the very next day.” I responded.
The more I tried to protect my fragile heart from pain, the more I got hurt every passing day.
“Tessa, I don’t hold any grudge against you. We can still be in touch like friends in the future but you are making it awkward for us. We don’t talk, we avoid each other like the other person doesn’t exist in the same house. It doesn’t have to be in this way.” He said.
It was the longest conversation we were having in days.
