“Happy birthday, my love!”
I wasn’t prepared for this big surprise from the
Raelynn exclaimed and fireworks erupted in the woman who always made extra efforts to make me feel special and loved but I didn’t know why I wasn’t
excited as much I used to be.
My mind lingered off to my son who asked me to come home early. After dropping Lucas at our house, I again drove back to the location where Raelynn wanted me to come.
“Logan, are you in shock?” She snapped her finger in front of my eyes, thus bringing me out of my trance and I hugged her.
“This is the best surprise I received in a long time.” I said.
“Really! I have been planning your birthday since I came back. How can I not go over the edge for the person I love the most.” She cupped my face and leaned close.
I knew what might happen so I created some distance between us.
Although, I loved her, it still felt inappropriate to be intimate with her when I was still married to someone
else.
Disappointment washed over her face.
“Logan, what happened. Why did you stop me?” She asked.
“We can kiss as much as we want once I’ll be officially separated from Tessa. You know it’s against my ethics.” I stated the truth because I was a man of character.
“A kiss wouldn’t hurt but I respect your decision.” She forced a smile.
I felt bad for hurting her feelings but I wasn’t ready for this.
“Let’s cut the cake, I have especially ordered it from your favourite bakery, the same pineapple flavour with dark chocolate icing.” She beamed with happiness.
“I’d really love to taste it. I haven’t eaten their cake since you disappeared.” I said and followed her on the rooftop of the restaurant she booked near the river bank.
“Blew the candles and make a wish.” She instructed me.
“I am not a kid, Ray.” I laughed.
“But, our celebration is special. It feels like the first time.” She replied.
I did as she wished me to do, though, I didn’t make a wish because I was contended with my life.

The dinner was served. Raelynn took many pictures of us.
“I’ll post them on my social media once we’ll be an official couple.” She said.
“Do you use social media?” I asked her with a frown.
“Yes, I do have a private account but don’t worry, I do post about us.” She said but the hesitation in her eyes couldn’t convince me.
“Let’s have a dance first and then I’ll give your birthday gift.” She said.
I glanced at the time in my wrist watch and it reminded me of Tessa because it was a gift from her on my first birthday after our marriage and the morning incident flashed in my mind.
How she had turned completely cold towards me. Even a simple birthday wish was forced.
“Logan, what happened to you? Why are you keep zoning out?” Raelynn nudged me.
“My parents want me to join them for dinner and I also promised Lucas to celebrate my birthday with him. So, I need to go back.” I said with a helpless smile.
“You could bring Lucas here. I wanted us to celebrate your day as a family but I understand.” She tried to
hide her sadness.
