PART–040
Tessa
“Does your husband know that you’re here?”
Ruby, who poured wine in my glass, asked me the question that I wanted to avoid.
“If things were good between us then I wasn’t sitting in your patio and drinking.” I chuckled dryly.
“That’s a valid reason. Don’t worry, girl. We won’t discuss your tragic married life this evening. We can drink and remember old times. We don’t get enough time for ourselves, Tess.” She said occupying the opposite couch and sipped her wine.
“I really don’t remember much of our old life, Ruby. For last three years, I devoted myself raising Lucas and now, I got chance to reflect on my life.” I replied with honesty.
“Since, your divorce isn’t happening anytime soon, I advise you to start working.” She suggested.
“Logan will create drama if he finds out that I have planned to work in Adrian’s company and I want peace in my life for now.” I leaned back on the chair and closed my eyes.
Tiredness consumed me as the mild alcohol kicked into my system.
“Tessa, Logan doesn’t have the right to control your decisions. It’s your life and it must be your call. Adrian runs an apparel brand and you’re a fashion designer. You can’t be relying on him forever. If he argues then talk to him but I strongly advice you to start working.”
Her words made sense.
If the divorce wasn’t happening then sitting home and watching him parading his lover in front of me.
“Today’s Wednesday.” I spoke.
“Yes, it is. Why do you ask?” She raised a brow.
“Can I start from Monday? I need three days to prepare myself. It’s new for me and definitely it’s not going to be easy. I am almost twenty–four and market wants college freshers.” I shared my doubts with her.
“Tessa, you’re a talented artist. If you weren’t then Adrian would never offer you this job because he’s a businessman. So, don’t doubt yourself. We’re sure that you’ll soon fit yourself in practical world.” She tried to encourage me.
Her encouraging words boosted my turbulent confidence. I thought about it for what I felt like two minutes and made up my mind.
I had lived on his expanses for three years. I never spent money on my personal expenses but it still felt like I was feeding on his money.
The time had come when I give myself another chance, the time when I had to do self–discovery.

“We need to buy you some office outfits. So, are you free on Saturday? I know a couple of stores where you can find something stylish and in your comfort zone.” She was more excited than me.
I only smiled.
The bigger challenge would be telling Logan. I didn’t need his permission but keeping transparency was what I wanted between us.
Suddenly, my phone rang and Logan’s number displayed on the screen. I wanted to ignore him but giving him tension was also wrong because I directly came to Ruby’s house and I drove myself to get my mind off the suffocation I had been feeling since my argument with him.
I ignored it.
His reason to create cold distance between us, hurt me beyond repair. I didn’t realize for how long I cried that night but there was no one to comfort me.
I had realized that I was all alone in the world. The little ray of hope, Lucas‘ presence couldn’t fill the void.
I still felt lonely because Lucas was a small kid, he didn’t know the complex human emotions.
It rang again.
“You should tell him that you are staying here.” Ruby advised.
I sighed and swiped the green button.
“Hello.”
My tone was flat.
“Where are you?” He asked, his tone reflected how frustrated and angry he was.
“I am with Ruby and I won’t be coming home as I am drunk. Please, take care of Lucas tonight.” I replied swallowed more of the bitter liquid.
“Give me the address, I am coming there to pick you.” He said and his tone was full of command which fuelled my anger.
“I said I am not coming to your house then stop behaving like a controlling asshole. I am not your property, Logan Wilferd. In fact, I won’t be there so you can invite your girlfriend over there and have a wonderful night.” I yelled.
My anger and resentment won over my patience,
There was a brief silence on both ends.
Ruby was staring at me with shock.
“Alright, do whatever you want.” His tone was deadpanned before the line went dead.
I stared at the blank screen.
