PART–048

“Where was your mind when you drove like a senseless drunkard?” I raised my brow at the man who laid on the hospital bed, his right arm wrapped in a splint but the cocky look didn’t falter.
“I wasn’t driving recklessly, it happened in a split of second and yes, I was kind of lost.” He said.
“Take a driver from next time. Not every day is your lucky day, Logan.” I advised him.
There was awkwardness between us because it was the first time in a week when we were talking. He looked in pain and also destressed. I wanted to comfort him by asking what was bothering him that
could cost his life because he wasn’t a reckless man.
“Take rest. Your Mom will be here so I have to leave before her blood pressure hikes if she sees me.” I said and prepared to leave.
The formalities were already complete and he was under great medical care.
“Can’t you stay here for a little longer?” His eyes looked at me with traces of hope.
“Lucas is alone at home. He doesn’t know about your accident and I don’t want to leave him alone when he finds out.” I gave him a valid reason to escape this awkwardness between us.
He remained silent but his eyes lingered on me.
“Logan! Oh My God, how did it happen?”
Loud commotion broke our eye lock and the awkwardness was replaced by blankness because it was none other than Raelynn.
“Ray, I am fine. It was a small accident. Please, there’s no need to get panic.” He replied her calmly but her tears were flowing unstoppable and it looked rather funny than vulnerable.
“I’ll excuse myself. Don’t put strain on your injured hand if you plan to embrace each other.” I said to gain their attention but I used a taunt.
Well, served them right.
Raelynn threw me a glare but chose silence to continue her ‘kind girl‘ act in front of her love sick lover.
Turning towards the door, I put the food bag on the table and exhaled deeply before exiting his ward. I wondered how she was allowed to enter in a restricted ward where only family members were allowed to
visit.
But again, Logan had something to do with this. He must have added her in visitor’s list.
My tears streamed down uncontrollably. Why it had to be this difficult for me to act strong.
Upon reaching home, I directly went to Lucas and explained him the whole situation with his father. He

was panicked at first but then he understood the situation. He wanted to meet his father but I told him that he could visit him next day before going to school.
I didn’t want him to see his father and his biological mother together having a great time.
At least, he was happy among all of us and I wanted him to live a carefree life.
After tucking him in his bed, I decided to finish my pending work but I couldn’t stop worrying about Logan. What I learned from Zach, his mother left after dinner and he was alone.
Logan wasn’t a kid but an independent man who preferred to manage his life on his own. He never asked me to do a wife’s duty but when I started doing things for him, he never complained and with passing time, he relied on me completely for everything.
He was an introvert. I could understand his needs without him saying but the nurses weren’t me.
The landline rang. The guard told me that it was Raelynn. At first, I wanted to prohibit her entry but again, it wasn’t my house and I didn’t want her to complain about this to the owner.
I told him to let her come inside.
And mentally prepared myself to welcome the insane woman. Who had probably come to argue with me.
Two minutes later, loud clicking sound broke the silence and Raelynn walked inside. Her eyes met mine
and they darkened instantly.
“You!”
She growled like an annoyed cat and before I could react, she slapped me hard across my left cheek.
“Aren’t you satisfied yet? Huh, tell me what do you want more? Money, assets or something else. Just name the price and get the hell out of Logan’s life because he won’t accept me until you keep looming over his head.” She yelled.
The slap was harsh and it stung badly but it also fuelled my anger.
“Raelynn!” I glared her and with same intensity, I slapped her back and she couldn’t take it.
“I have been tolerating your shit for years but not anymore. You crossed the line this time.” I yelled.
Hearing the commotion, the guards rushed inside.
“Ma’am, shall we escort her out?” The head asked me because I was the owner of the house.
“Hey, don’t forget who I am. You all will lose your job when Logan marries me.” She barked at them.
“And you are free to do it when you’ll become their boss but right now, you’re harassing me and this time your dearest Logan won’t be able to save you from going to jail.” I warned her and I was dead serious.
“Then get the hell out of his life. You stole him from me and now my son. Lucas doesn’t even look at me.. He only chants your name. You have brainwashed my son against me.” She cried.
